As the mother of an almost-5-yr old, I thought I would be much more bothered by this book. The story is disturbing, but the fact that it's told through 5-yr-old Jack's innocent voice I think makes it easier to digest. Jack has no idea his life is horrific because he has nothing to compare it to. It was a quick read for me, I finished it in just 3 days. Although I didn't LOVE it, I had trouble putting it down - I wanted to know if they were going to be OK. There were times it was difficult and somewhat annoying to read a story narrated completely by a 5-yr-old, but other times I was grateful for this. I didn't choose this book, it was a book club pick and I honestly wasn't looking forward to it, but it was much better than I expected. Overall a good pick.

I took a couple classes with Jenny and one with James, so I'm prejudice. But, I loved it despite that. I think the struggle to come to terms with something you already know but don't want to face is beautifully portrayed here. She talks about how she needs to be selfish in this decision, but at the same time, it tears her apart that she is breaking the hearts of those around her. All in all, it is a hopeful story and I really enjoyed it.

At first, I found this quite slow-going. Maybe I wasn't in the right mood. When I came back to it a second time, I let myself sink into the language and the beautiful descriptions of weather and landscape and the story gradually worked its magic on me. There was something that didn't quite coalesce about the 'turning to glass' idea. It's a metaphor for something, surely? And I'm not quite sure what that something was in this story? Maybe the author didn't want to spell it out - but I think we tend to look for the 'meaning' in fairy tales. So a beautiful read - with perhaps a vital something missing? Look forward to reading more by this author.

Flawless (the second and previous book in the Pretty Little Liars series) left off with Toby Cavanaugh's suicide, and the relief shared between the four (ex) best friends that this whole thing was finally over. Hoping and praying that life will go back to normal, Aria, Hanna, Emily and Spencer go about their business, attempting to fix what A had destroyed. That is until all four girls receive yet another text message notifying them, nothing was over and threating that if any of the friends expose A, things will only get a lot worse. As in every book in PPL A knews everything. She/He knows that Emily is still crushing on Maya, even against her mother's wishes, Aria is back to seeing her English teacher, Spencer stole her sister's essay and Hanna lost her boyfriend Sean due to A and now her best friend Mona. And with these truths A keeps Aria, Hanna, Emily and Spencer constantly on their toes and looking over their shoulders. Things in Rosewood aren't are pretty as they were anymore! I love the PPL series! I honestly can't get enough, and can't wait to see who A finally is!

La mejor biografía de San Josemaría Escrivá.
I'm debating between 3 and 4. This book was more interesting than I expected it to be. it's an autobiographical account of Steinbeck's trek across America with his dog. It's not really about anything, but his thoughts are interesting and sent my mind leaping to thought, which I like. Often times he did ramble on too much and I'm not a dog person and didn't really care about his dog, but it certainly made me feel old. You get to a time in your life where you do more reflecting than living.
This gives true insight into how our brains function, what we believe will make us happy, and how to remedy letting our brains fool us.

As a huge fan of Moorcock and Doctor Who, I was thrilled when I saw this book. Yes, it is perhaps more of a Moorcock Multiverse book than a Doctor Who book, but I don't see this as a negative at all. The way Moorcock slotted the Doctor into the established Multiverse canon worked surprisingly well. The novel reads as a delightful mix of Douglas Adams and P.G. Wodehouse, with Moorcock really capturing the whimsical character of the Doctor and companion Amy Pond. For more info on the Second Aether, I recommend Moorcock's trilogy that begins with the book Blood. There is also a comic book series titled Michael Moorcock's Multiverse (with art from Walt Simonson!) that is excellent.
