I wanted to like this book. Really, I did. I’m a huge, huge, HUGE fan of all things Joss Whedon/Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and the idea of an alternate universe where Evil Willow was never stopped intrigued me. That is, until it was revealed just where the book turned away from the show and entered its own world. You see, I was hoping that it would start to diverge around the end of the season 6 conclusion. That Willow would be so far gone by the time the book began that we’d hardly recognize the familiar Sunnydale we were so used to seeing. Instead, it converged almost at the very beginning of the storyline, and I found this disappointing. The problem of course, is that if Evil Willow from the TV show wasn’t stopped, there wouldn’t be much of a story, because she would have succeeded in ending the world and...well, that would be that. The world would be over. I understand that there’s no story in that. Yet I find it unfair that this book is apparently about “what would happen if Evil Willow was never stopped” because that’s not what it’s about. It’s about an alternate universe Willow with a slightly different plan than TV Willow. As a Buffy story on its own, it only holds up somewhat decently. Navarro got the voice of most of the character down all right, save for Tara. I don’t know if becoming a ghost suddenly made her a very different person, but Ghost Tara and regular human Tara don’t seem to connect in anything other than name and appearance. Her ways of talking and general mannerisms just aren’t there, and I felt you could replace Tara with any other morally correct ghost and the story would be pretty much the same. The story is a bit below standard, though I’ve come to expect that from novels based around television programs. It’s not terrible, but the threat Willow poses never feels serious enough to base a book around. Overall, it could have been worse, but it also could have been a lot better.

A fascinating book regardless of one's religious views. The author is willing to speak by telephone to book clubs (visit her site) and I very much enjoyed speaking to her, learning more about the book, and hearing about the process of writing it.

This book is a light and amusing mystery. It's fun for adults, but probably more suited to children and teens. This is definitely a mystery where you can figure everything out once the first few hints have been dropped and the only reason you keep reading is to see how long it will take our protagonist to solve it herself. The characters are amusing though the only ones that seem fully fleshed out are Ingrid and her dog, Nigel. All the other characters are just two demensional at best. One character flaw in the book was that there were a couple problems set up (Ingrid's brother possibly using steroids? Her grandfather's farm? What's her dad being secretive about?) that are never resolved in the end. Speaking of resolutions, the end of the book was very short and abrupt. We had a detailed mystery set up and the solution just seemed sort of half-assed, like Abrahams wasn't really sure how to end the story so he just slapped one on. He closed it off nicely, but there just wasn't enough substance to it. I'd was reading an Advanced Reader copy, but for the most part Advanced Reader's aren't too different from the final product. But please take that in mind when deciding wether or not to read the book. I'd still advise on making it a library book choice, because while I did find it an amusing read, it's probably not worth your money.

كتاب في غاية القيمة تمثل اراء حديثة وجريئة للمفكر السوري زكريا اوزون فيه يطرح بدقة وتحليل بديع جنايات الامام الشافعي الذي هو احد ائمة المذهب السني وجناياته الفقهية او الحديثية التي يتوارثها الكثيرون بدون تحليل او تمحيص لها من الضروري قراءة الكتاب والتفكر في بحوثه واتمنى ان اقرأ كتبه الاخرى وبخاصة جنايات البخاري من الواجب ان يتم مراجعة كتب التراث حتى يتبين الصائب منها من الخاطئ جدير بالقراءة والتأمل

I love Beatrix Potter. I love knitting. A book that combines both? This I had to see, simply out of curiosity. Unfortunately, the book was published in the late 1980s, so the patterns (mostly for children -- which I expected, considering it's Beatrix Potter) are extremely dated. Instead of timeless or even "traditional" patterns, most of them are the type of garments you look back on as a child of the 80s and say, "I can't believe my mom dressed me in that." You know, boxy sweaters with bulky frill around the collars, in pastel pink with a big bunny cross stitched on the front. Of course I wasn't really expecting to find any great patterns to add to my collection, but I thought maybe it would have some cute baby designs with a Potter aesthetic (you know, for the future baby I might one day have). Maybe if I were an accomplished knitter I could find a way to salvage some parts of the patterns, and update them to fit into this decade...but...I'm not. Oh well. Looks like future baby will be sticking to Baby Gap.

This book is really useful for people who love music. I don't mean in a music snob way but for those who are geninuely looking for new bands/artists to explore. It's set up like dictionary and each entry discusses an artist and then tells you what other artists you also might enjoy. What's great about this book is it goes beyond the obvious connections (i.e. if you like bowie you'll like roxy music, which is only true if you like specific eras of both artists. I wouldn't make that leap if I was only into Blue Eyed Soul era Bowie.) in order to help reframe groups you've already heard of but have not been compelled to check out.

Good read, however very predictable. I found myself knowing the end before it came close. But please please I can't stress enough how much I want a third book. I fell in love with Jessica and Lucius and I just find their story so heart warming and makes me want more so bad. if you like a bit of mystery and love it's a wonderful book to read.
