August 20, 2011: I've been trying to find more books by Cordelia Strube ever since I read and was blown away by *Lemon*. Normally, I prefer to purchase my books new and for full price. I like to think that I am supporting the authors and the whole book industry by doing so. But so far, I've struck out. Nothing in the stores and nothing available to order - either "sold out" or "temporarily unavailable to order". I'm starting to have my suspicions about that "temporarily" bit. Today though, on my almost daily jaunt over to Aqua books, I decided to check & see whether I could find any used copies. Eureka! Not one but two! This is one of them. And bonus points to me for putting my money where my mouth is to go buy something at Aqua Books (my favourite used book store in Winnipeg and self-proclaimed cultural city hall, that, sadly, recently announced it was closing because they just couldn't financially make a go of it any more).

Thrilling account of what one man was able to accomplish and still is doing. I have heard him speak. Please contribute to his Central Asia Institute and encourage your children to contribute to Pennies for Peacae.

Can't put this one down, just finished up and loved it. Never a boring moment, always guessing what's next and never expecting what comes!

I listened to this book and loved the descriptions of the early west. A terrific story of the early immigrant experience out west.

Take some vampire novels, mix it with a little Harry Potter and throw in some Native American legends and you have these books. Yes, it is yet another YA series about Vampires, but it's still pretty good.

I really enjoyed this. Her writing is so musical. Also very sort of mysterious--I feel like I'm out in the misty moors reading this stuff. I recommend this for anyone who writes lyrics for sure, plus fans of the Brontes.

This is Jonathan Safran Foer's first book. He was only 27 when he wrote it, and it is a wonderful foreshadowing of his potential as a writer. His second book, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, was better, but this book was still more well-written and ambitious than probably any other first-time author I've read. The story is told through several mediums: letters, stories from the past and present, various points-of-view. The main character's name is, coincidentally, Jonathan Safran Foer. He travels to Ukraine to try to meet the woman who saved his grandfather during World War II; his tour-guide, Alex, quickly becomes the focus of the story, with Jonathan taking a backseat. Alex is attempting to improve his grasp on the English language, so much of what he is says is hilarious because it does not translate how he would expect it to. Also, much of what he says is incredibly insightful and beautiful. READ IT!
