This was easily my favorite book that I have read so far this year. I really identify with Jessica and love her sarcasm/wit. The writing is so clever it actually makes me jealous. And of course my love of Marcus Flutie grew by leaps and bounds. The last few chapters made me spill more than a few tears (both happy and sad). Excellent, excellent read.

I have to go along with the others and rate this book 5 stars. It is an incredibly beautiful book. The reading is very interesting and the pictures are breathtaking imho.
Everyone who thinks the U.S. has the best health care system in the world would do well to read The Color of Atmosphere As Kozel describes her experience as a pediatrician - encounters with fetal distress in delivery rooms; treating children with leukemia; assisting others struggling with asthma; weekend coverage and viral infections; helping parents cope with ADHD, bed wetting, or Down syndrome – her stories will teach you that one of the challenges faced by a physician is learning to blend truth and compassion in her “encounters with the worried well …[as well as] the seriously ill.” Along the way you will learn that Dr. Kozel has wrestled with a bigger crisis. Over the years, she says, doctors have turned into Health Care Providers and patients Health Care Consumers, with much of the practice of medical care shaped by one question: who will pay for what? In the end, a dedicated physician who dreamed in high school of escaping her difficult family by going to university and on to medical school, succeeded in reaching that goal; then, with almost twenty years experience, she walked away. “We … have to be careful about how much we idealize … medical knowledge,” Dr. Kozel says. Medical knowledge is science and art, not belief. And uncertainty can distract you from the truth. In fact, when we talk about “the best health care system in the world” we may be seeing something that is not there, something the color of atmosphere.

Very nicely illustrated and the CD and song were already a favorite at our house.
** spoiler alert ** I read the series in the shortest of time and I really liked it. After book 1 I was a bit disappointed to see the story evolve into a new direction, but thinking about it now makes me realize that it was a good idea of the author to take that road. Starting the last books made me really curious about how the story would end and while I knew I couldn't expect a happy ending I still hoped to be left with some hope. I am now. And I'm relieved. The whole series made me think about many things I take for granted and I tried to imagine how it would be to not have these things in my life anymore. It's hard and I don't think I could do it. But that made me appreciated the filled fridge, the heater in my house, power 24/7 and everything else even more.

I'm a sucker for collections of essays / short stories, and this is a great light read.

I read this book several years ago and just listened to it again in my car on CD. It is technically a 'young adult' book but I still find it very interesting. If a game represents a war, and you must win absolutely, at what point does the cost become to high? This book was talking about Genocide before Rwanda and Darfur.

It was only so-so the first time I read it. Then I tried reaching Marsh's books in order and realized this one is when Alleyn first meets Troy and that improved it. So did my increased understanding of the art world.
