I enjoyed reading this series overall, but this was not my favorite of the three books in the trilogy. I was disapointed because, while the first two books kept me guessing about what would happen next, I was able to predict every "twist" the plot took in this one.

Seccond time reading this book. Really great series, lots of action, fantastic world building. Though there are parts that drone a little for me. Wonderful variety of characters, and great "bad guys".

J. R. Ward has created such a complete world, from the first book in this series. I really like the characters and the interactions. I think it may say something about me that I really like these books about really damaged men redeamed and made stronger by love. Rehvenge while good at heart is a drug dealer and pimp. He takes care of the people who work for him, his mother, his sister. He pays off a blackmailer with money and his body to keep himself and his second in command safe because they are both half symphath. And then two things happen. He s pulled into a plot to kill Wrath, the king and he meets a woman. J.R. Ward has only hinted at what the Symphaths were until this point. They are way scarier than I had imagined. Probably because I had always liked the Rehvenge and Xhex. The overall story is still moving along and I can not wait until the next installment where we see John Matthew and Xhex.

E' da un po' che mi son convinta che dovrei leggere Tolkien, nel senso che considero l'autore un "imprescindibile". Alla fine, non sapevo neanche bene i retroscena del suo ingresso in Italia, prima di questo testo curato da Wu Ming 4. Per prima cosa, ho avuto la possibilità di seguirne la presentazione a Roma (la mia prima volta di fronte ad un Wu Ming, emozionatissima, mi sentivo talmente ridicola che ho deciso di non avvicinarmi neanche a stringergli la mano per non fare la figura dell'ebete) e dopo la presentazione ho deciso che poteva essere un buon punto di partenza. Sarà un lavoro atipico nell'universo tolkeniano, ma mi ha incoraggiata. Mi è piaciuto al di là del contesto e mi ha invogliata ad approfondire Tolkien. Quando ne avrò il tempo, purtroppo.

Not the best book in the series, but I enjoyed reading this. Even though some of the subplot felt rather pointless, still the revelation at the end felt like a satisfying conclusion to the big mystery that had been introduced at the end of the previous novel in the series. Looking forward to the next book, Cold Days to come out next year.

Another good mystery! This is a story of good Irish cops gone bad. It made me mad because I'm Irish and I really wanted to read this book but the outcome saddened me.

I have always enjoyed Richard North Patterson's books, this one is probably my least favorite. There is an honorable theme to the book, about how the lust for oil has led the U.S. and other countries to "look the other way" when dictators & cruel leaders have abused/tortured their people. The story is based on a man and his wife in fictional Luandia, whose land has been destroyed by oil companies. In speaking out for his people, the main character Bobby is falsely arrested for the lynching of 3 oil company employees. He is jailed & tortured. An American lawyer is brought into the picture by the wife, they were once lovers in their college days. A good premise, great subject for a book, but VERY slow-moving, at times even dragging. I found myself eager to just finish the book and not really enjoying the journey.
