I read this book and recently i saw the movie. I was so surprised that there was a movie. The movie was better than the book though. It talks about an african woman in Boswana(i dont know how to spell it) and she was the first woman to open a detective agency. She solved many cases and there were some funny moments! I wish i was as smart as her!

We read this as an end of the year book in my english class. I liked that it was a shorter book that contianed deep material. This story chronicled a greta friendship and contianed many parallel images that kept the book moving steadily. I really liked the "twisty" ending but at the same time I wish the book had covered a longer time period in George and Lennie's lives. The end was an effective cap off of the story and makes for great discussion as to whether George betrayed Lennie or was only being a good friend.

I read this book about 8 years ago, and I remembered it again when I read another by the author. I wanted to re-read it, simply because it was a mystery and I didn't remember the ending, like usual. Turns out, the ending was good, and for the most part the book was good as well. However, I do not like the amount of detail used to give background to some characters. It just wasn't necessary for the supporting characters, and could have been put to better use with the main characters. Sometimes it got to the point where I would skim over a lot of paragraphs because it really had no main point to the storyline. Overall though, I did like the book, and I couldn't wait to get to the end, simply to find out what really happened. :)

“Everything about him was old except his eyes and they were the same colour as the sea and were cheerful and undefeated.” I read this book a few years ago and was truly amazed and simply in awe at the very moving story about a courageous old man who never gave up, fighting his own battle against the natural world, fighting death to the very end. The honour in such struggle and the importance of commitment, so strongly depicted in the book, has not only moved me emotionally as a reader but has also taught me their very values.
