good read, but you might as well watch the movie... the images are much more disturbing and the story is identical. It really gives you a shocking account of Cambodia under Pol Pot.

My least favorite Dean Koontz book ever.
This is such a great novel. I read it a few years ago, I think it was in 2004, I don't really remember now, but I know it was before I separated from Fabio since during the separation process I only read books by Chris Bojalian and books that Lauren mailed me. She didn't mail me The Little Friend, but I'm sure it is she who recommended it. Just last night, I was talking with my friend Jenna about this book (which I convinced her to read, and which she is reading now) and we were cracking up over the part where Harriet gives her Sunday School teacher the drawing of the black spot. This is one of the most intriguing books in the history of writing. It should have won prizes, maybe it did. It's complicated but not overwhelming in its detail. It's clever without being overwrought. It's dark without making one want to be buried alive rather than finish a chapter. And it's Southern without being charming. Which is something to which I can relate.
Loved it. It starts off slow, but by the end, it was the first book in a long time that kept me up. This is a book that is drenched in 80s nostalgia, but I think the reader that will like it the most is anyone with experience in any RPGs or first-person puzzle/adventure games. The only drawback is that it is not the most well-written book out there, but this is a case where the fast moving plot just sucks you in so you couldn't care less about flowery adjectives weighing down the pace of the story--very reminiscent of Ender's Game but with an older protagonist. Check it out. (Joe and Fill Mark, especially you guys)
A refreshingly upbeat book (aside from the opening premise that gets things rolling). Far too much modern genre fiction is obsessed with "grimdark" settings and situations, and it's nice to see something that isn't dark and dreary. It's also refreshingly short. The author tells an entertaining tale in around 250 pages and I appreciate that after reading far too many overwritten "epics" that could have been gotten across the story in much less space. I will most likely continue reading this series in the future.

This was an incredibly wonderful memoir, especially when you realize it took place in Brighton/Penfield not long ago. I enjoyed & cried through the reading of it.
Loved, loved, loved this book. It's definitely for adults, though. It's tricky to get the hang of the flipping around in time, and the challenges faced by the protagonists are probably only interesting to adults.
