:P أعتقد أننا -معشر الكبار- بحاجة إلى فهم مشاعرنا أكثر من الصغار ... شيء عجيب يسمى الذكاء العاطفي

I oscillated between a 2 star and a 3 star. It was OK, not great.
Here is another book I read this month that I ended up liking more at the end than I did when I started reading it. It covers the period of one summer into the fall, when two families lives changed drastically, throwing their individual and mutual universes into total chaos. In the beginning, I felt it was going to be a little too soap-opera-ish for my taste, but things improved. The story deals with two families, who are friends primarily because the husband (Laurence) in one and the wife (Gina) in another have been best friends since they were in high school. The character driving the story is Gina and Fergus' daughter, Sophy, who is devastated and angry when her father suddenly announces that he and her mother are separating. They always seemed to be at one another's throats, but Sophy cannot believe that they are breaking up. As the story develops, the relationships of all the characters to each other change quite a bit, sometimes unexpectedly, and usually with very sad consequences. As I said earlier, it started out like a soap opera plot, and though it still contained some of that type of story, the narrative was effective enough to make you wonder what would happen next. The characters are pretty well-drawn, and fairly complex, and the story creates as many questions as are resolved by the end. Not great, not awful, and slightly thought-provoking.

This sequel was enjoyable to read following its predecessor, "Name of the Wind." I will read the third book when it comes out. I look forward to hearing the continuing story unfold. Book #1 was original and well-written. I read it twice and loved it. Book #2 was also well-written, but so much of the content was similar. The middle 500 pages were difficult to move through quickly enough to maintain my solid interest. Things could have definitely been trimmed down. But I know this has been a massive project for Rothfuss and to him it needed to be that detailed. At least I can tell myself I've navigated through a 994 page book, which is no small feat!

4.5 stars Excellently written. In the beginning it was just confusing enough to intrigue without going overboard into incomprehensible. I also liked the idea of many different, parallel worlds. I've never found the muscle bound hero attractive. But somehow this author has made it seem like the coolest thing ever. That and long hair, which I've always hated too. I thi k that says something about CA that she can make a believer out of me. Really cool book.

I'll write a review when I'm not screaming about cliffhangers and how I need to finish the triogy before I go back to work tomorrow.

After I finished this book I couldn't stop thinking about it. I kept finding new layers of meaning. It's a complicated book with tough issues, but it also has a message of hope.
