A good but depressing book about the battle of the Somme in World War I.

I like most of DeMille's stuff including the Charm School; except the interplay between Hollis and Lisa seems like a couple of star struck teens. I force myself to continue reading knowing better things await.

This is a fun beach-read about relationships and friends who became lovers.
Alegato antibélico frío y tétrico. La crudeza de las situaciones planteadas tal cual, la narración en primera persona... Magistral.

I expected much more from this book but was instead a tad disappointed. From dust jacket: "Alex Dingwall-Main, a distinguished landscape architect working in Provence, is accustomed to odd garden requests from his demanding clients. But when a rich and eccentric Frenchman asks him to find the oldest olive tree in the world to grace his exquisite courtyard in southern France, the author finds himself on an improbable adventure spanning the Mediterranean coast of Europe. In this quixotic, lyrical, and evocative odyssey, we encounter millennia-old olive groves, unscrupulous dealers, mafioso-like skullduggery in the plant world, secret festivals, divided families, hidden villages, farcical disasters, and miracles in holy places. Alex finally locates a three-thousand-year-old olive tree miraculously shaped like an angel, but he is stymied when the farmer tells him he will not sell him the tree unless he buys the two-thousand-acre farm that surrounds it...not to mention the entire nearby village, for the local people believe a drop of rain that has touched the leaves of the Angel Olive will cure anything, from snakebite to the common cold."

This is simply the best how to act book ever written. IMHO.

Difficult to read, but had some interesting concepts. As usual, Aldous Huxley was years before his time and he makes some arguments in the book that have bearing on the world today.

jodi piccoult's books are flow so easily so i can finish them like that (snap of fingers). however, while i did enjoy my sister's keeper a fair bit, several of her other books have been somewhat disappointing to me... in terms of the ending... until that point, though, i am quite enraptured! this book was a little different... i liked it but thought she was trying a little too hard with her "deep thoughts" or whatever. or maybe im just not deep/slightly cynical. in any event, an interesting plot.

Another fave. Hard to explain, but once you check it out you'll get it. I think this girl is my long lost twin. Just read it.
