I actually didn't get to finish this one because it was due back to the library with a hold on it. What I read I found interesting. It's interesting to get the perspective of someone who grew up with a legacy behind them and all of the expectation that came with it.

I made the mistake of reading the Fever series first. However the moment I picked up the Highlander series I was not disappointed. Karen you need to write many many many more books. Some that include all of the characters from the Highlander series and the Fever series. Adam Black and his jealousy and superior attitude threw me off of his character. He wasn't like what I expected from reading the fever series and prayed that Hawk would just beat him up and make me happy. However now I'm happy he didn't but that is another story. Adam bringing Adrienne back to Hawk as a punishment completely backfired on him and this book made me laugh, cry a little, and sit on the edge of my chair. Hawk's character surprised me. I did not think he would go off the deep end like he did in the end. Granted in that situation I could understand, but was thoroughly surprises. Grimm made me mad that he would betray Hawk like he did, but I again can understand the concern for his friend. This was the first step to falling in love with all the men of the Highlander series.
I was assigned this book in 6th grade and hated it. Then in 7th grade I had a different teacher who also assigned it. I hated it more that time.
Favorite Quotes It’s not when you start that makes your success in the world, but when you quit. Were we, also, hiking along some cosmic journal page? Were the events about us all part of a message we could understand, if only we found the right perspective from which to read them? Somehow, with our long series of miracles, I thought so. At last, the answer why. The lesson that had been so hard to find, so difficult to learn, came quick and clear and simple. The reason for problems is to overcome them. Why, that’s the very nature of man, I thought, to press past limits, to prove his freedom. It isn’t the challenge that faces us, that determines who we are and what we are becoming, but the way we meet the challenge, whether we toss a match at the wreck or work our way through it, step by step, to freedom. And behind it lies not blind chance but a principle that works to help us understand, a thousand "coincidences" and friends come to show us the way when the problem seems too hard to solve alone. Problems for overcoming. Freedom for proving. And, as long as we believe in our dream, nothing by chance.

Loaded with allegory, or metaphor, or symbolism, or something, and good sort of in spite of it.
Gripping, terrifying... Absolutely essential reading to understand the WHO/WHAT/WHY behind Blackwater and HOW this army of "citizen" soldiers affects relationships and operations throughout the world and wars... without accountability to the law and with all the protective perks of subversive lawlessness.

Could use more information on how to utilize specific techniques and some more walkthrough examples but as a reference book, it serves it purpose nicely.
