The story of a liberal, open person finding herself under pressure from the forces of an evangelical Christian church hit a bit close to home, but this is an interesting opportunity to contemplate what works and what might not when it comes to fervent belief, assumptions, and any situation in which a person wants to endow you with his or her world view.

A Religious History of the American People will probably be on my "currently reading" list for about a million years. That's how big and heavy and long this book is. It's a classic, though, so if you're interested in American religious history (I am), then you should read it.

This was just too silly for me.
Comme si cette grande colère m'avait purgé du mal, vidé d'éspoir, devant cette nuit chargée de signes et d'étoiles, je m'ouvrais pour la première fois à la tendre indifférence du monde.

I loved this book in a sad way. If you've seen the movie i'm sure you have an idea of what this is about, there is something about reading it that makes it so much more realistic & heartbreaking. This book isn't just about a dog, It's about Family, hard times, Love how a dog really can be man's best friend.

As another review said, the Charlie said, Lola said, Lotta said made it really awkward to read. I prefer the TV version.

Two scholars come together as tehir inidividual studies coincide. ?18th? century poets have an affiar. 20th Century scholars try to trace their relationship through their letters, journals and their contemporaries' writings. Lots of faux-Romantic poetry which does actually help develop, in the truly photographic sense, the plot (revealing). A very long book for little actually happening -- a little more interest in character development at least. We see everything that's happened in the past.
Great read! Sad and a little drawn out, but poetic. Very powerful ending.
