Sigh. I am emotionally exhausted and have but a whisper of voice left after spending the past 14 months reading all 4,176 pages of this series, chapter by chapter, aloud to my boys. It was a lesson in patience that came to a fulfilling end. LOVE this book and this series!

Once Upon A River was a captivating read. Margo is one of the most genuine, simple and strangely unique heroines I have come across in a long time. There is so much description in this book that I had no clue about -- Living on a river, shooting, hunting, fishing, skinning -- but from the very beginning I was living side by side with Margo and felt very much a part of her formative journey. This book was such a reminder that we all are such complex creatures, but how we live our lives is such a result of our choices, and who we surround ourselves with; including those in our family, friends and lovers.

This is a good book for beginning or long term vegans. Unfortunately, at first didn’t see the bee products which aren’t vegan, but I do have it on my vegan shelf anyway because it’s such a unique and fun read (one of those many cookbooks I can happily read from cover to cover), and the recipes are easy to prepare and not intimidating for beginner vegans & vegetarians. I must say also that even if you are not a vegan/vegetarian, I’d still recommend this book. It’s written by 2 Canadian women and it’s a very entertaining and informative read. It has some unique facts and enjoyable comments & pictures, and there are recipes for foods for animal companions, and also non-edible products made from food, such as household and personal care products. Vegans: please ignore & avoid the bee products. Gift from a good vegan friend, who's from Canada.

In listened to the audio version, and it was fantastic. I was stunned when I realized it was the author reading -- he was over the top! Then I read his bio, and realized he is probably the most famous guy I never heard of. In all, a good kid read. Not deep, but way fun. Especially as an audiobook.
