I loved this book--maybe I should've given it five stars, because it was just so satisfying. The characters are well drawn, and the town just came to life. The protagonist reminded me a bit of Anne Shirley--stubborn and independent, sometimes at the expense of seeing the obvious. I liked her, even when she frustrated me. The story reminded me of Maeve Binchy at her best--stories that wrap you up in them like a warm blanket. It's just what I was in the mood for, and I can't wait to read part 2.
Fabulous summer read!

I started reading this to Jaden and Sienna a couple nights ago. After they fell asleep last night, I couldn't stand to wait, so I finished the book. It's a super fast read and I loved it! I can't wait to finish it up with the girls. You just gotta love that rabbit! A must-read for every grade school girl! Also, amazing illustrations!

I'm torn between liking and loving this book. I didn't like the ending, but I guess by that point there wasn't any other way it could end. I love the style of the book, the ideas, the questions, the ambiguities. I love the main character, and I love the part describing him as a lotus-eater, unwilling to leave once he'd tasted. I'm sure it's one of those books that I would glean much more from on a second read.

I've never been a fan of Updike's style, and this book took me a while to get into, but once I was into it I got pretty hooked. It's an interesting novel because it was published in 1960, and the main character, Rabbit, is a suburban guy in his mid-20s who feels trapped in his marriage, his job, etc. He decides to run from responsibility (hence the title) and I couldn't help but think about the onset of our most hectic decade being right around the corner, and how Rabbit kind of represents the urge to break away from the conformity of the 50s (although not totally--he does, after all, confess to love and even try to settle down with the prostitute he shacks up with). Also, purely from a stylistic p.o.v., the climactic tragic moment of the novel is beautifully written, and it alone makes Rabbit, Run worth reading.

This is the best book on addiction I have ever read. It is raw, real and intense. But also witty and kind.
My husband and I are reading this again to get ready for the 7th volume. My favorite part of this volume is Rowling's ability to so perfectly characterize "teenage angst".
the greatest book about business cards, ever.
