Another Brenda Jackson delight. I really enjoyed the interaction between the hero and heroine. It was nice for there to be so little emphasis on the interracial element. This was probably amplified by the fact that they were alone a vast majority of the time. Look forward to reading the books about her super hot brothers.

Boy oh boy do I love this book. I think this is a wonderful series, and it's surprisingly complex. I love how Cooper introduces one set of kids in the first book, and another (Will) in this second book. Yet another, Bran, comes later. Anyway, here Will discovers on his eleventh birthday that he's no regular boy (apparently the eleventh birthday is a big deal in the magic-child world). Merry, the slightly grouchy and mysterious uncle from the series' opener, appears and informs Will that he is the Sign-Seeker. He must find six ancient signs that once joined will give the powers of the Light the strength to battle the Dark. I'm thrilled that a movie version of The Dark is Rising is finally coming out, but very sad that the powers that be chose to skip Over Sea Under Stone , the first book in the sequence. All the books are fine on their own, but together, they're much better. I think this will be true of the movie, too.

It's like an addition to another book, I found this one even stranger but it was still very good.

Winner of the Newbery Medal in 1957, but with a truly timeless feel to it. Similar to the best of Laura Ingalls Wilder, though I think even better.

While there's a lot more going on in this world that Carey can (and I assume will?) write about, the main plot thread with Asmodius was finally resolved, and, if Carey really wanted to, he could end the series here. I've enjoyed the series so far, but given that most of the character plot threads are finished, and they have a decent resolution, I really don't feel much urgency to continue. If I do, I'll probably wait for two or three more books to be published before starting in on it again.
My first Shel Silverstein book. I've loved it since the very beginning.

CANDOR by Pam Bachorz is a a captivating story of a teenage Oscar who lives in a stepford-like, cookie-cutter town in Candor, Fl. What makes Oscar special is that his dad is the founder of the Utopian town, but better yet, is the creator of a new auditory addiction, a brainwashing technique that has the whole town running smooth and perfect. Except Oscar knows how the system works and uses it to his advantage until a girl, Nia, shows up who is spectacular and different, who grabs a hold of his heart. What would Oscar do for love? What would he sacrifice to keep a little spec of originality and brilliance in Candor alive? Read it and find out. Some (and I do mean SOME) of the dialogue especially Oscar’s felt unrealistic and even whiny. I would have also liked a few parts to be delved into a bit more. For example, I wished Campbell would have had more of a presence and Oscar's mom's story elaborated on. But overall, CANDOR is a thrilling and exciting read and with each short chapter the story drives you forward and doesn’t let you take a break. A snarky and witty Oscar and clone like kids keep you laughing despite their ‘unoriginality’. The drone like redundancy is thrown in at the perfect times giving CANDOR a witty humor that is seldom seen in such serious teen fiction. But despite its few flaws CANDOR is a sweet love story and I recommend this to anyone who loves snarky, witty boys and male POV narration. Go pick up a copy and see how far Oscar really goes.
