I'm not much on war history, but this is a good book about a little know bit of history. I never would have read it but for someone thrusting it into my hand and expecting me to tell him what I thought about it. I couldn't avoid it, so I just read it and got it over with. Not a waste of time in the end.

I heard David Gilmour and his son in an interview on NPR and they interested me enough to get the book of their" adventures" out of the library. Very quick and enjoyable read. Loved the discussion of the boy's fear of his father( of his disapproval) and his statement that isn't it time I was my own person and not always looking to you or worrying about your reaction, certainly struck a chord. Now not many would agree with the father's decision to allow his son to drop out of school but then he doesn't seek our approval and conversion; and that's what I like about it. No telling you how to deal with teenagers or life( as in Eat Pray Vomit); he is fearful himself of the consequences.

Good book, really enjoyed the story. I think this is being set up for a squeal.
I loved, loved this book -- for the first two thirds. The way Gordon describes the characters is utterly fascinating, beautiful and novel. I thought that, even though they were financially always on the brink of destitution, they had rich lives, which they owed mainly to their relationship with horses and, somewhat, each other. At one point, I thought excitedly "it's National Velvet for adults!" But in the last third the mafia aspect of the racetrack took over and I didn't really understand those characters motivation for their actions. In the end, it seemed like the book was not as successful as a novel as it was as a series of short stories or portraits. That's why I'm giving it only 4 stars. But the writing is beautiful; the characters' vernaculars are sometimes hard to understand, but their voices seem convincingly authentic and, in their own way, wise (that is only true for the "good" characters).

Fun fluff. I listened to this on cd. (It's a great way to get lots of things done.) Once I got past the crappy American accent, I enjoyed it.
I really enjoyed this book. I love the Benni Harper mysteries also by Earlene Fowler but this is even better. The lives of three women of different ages are all intertwined in this novel set in the same town as the Benni Harper series. The characters really came to life and I felt I really knew and cared about them. I hope this is the start of a new series.

There's a reason that this is considered the standard by which all other graphic novels are held to. It's an absolutely mind bending/opening experience.
Gran libro y suspenso. No pude dejarlo. ¡No leas esto si estás embarazada, podría asustarte!
