I think I would give this one 3.5 stars if I could. Vonnegut peppers this book with some really fantastic one-liners about modern life, sentences that I read and re-read and laughed at and read again because they are just so spot-on. I can find metafiction tedious in the wrong hands, but I thought Vonnegut handled it remarkably well. This tone of this book didn't sit well with me, though. It was definitely a downer, and while I know that is sort of the point (it certainly wasn't meant to be uplifting), the cynical mood it put me in as I read it is not one I'm necessarily eager to revisit. Plus, while I mostly found the book clever in a good way, there were points where its relentless cleverness became obnoxious and the tone got a bit condescending. I am pretty sure Kurt Vonnegut and I would not be friends, lets put it that way. Also, I realized how many other authors are just trying to emulate this book, which just made me retroactively annoyed with other books I read that I thought were clever and entertaining and that, it turns out, were merely Breakfast of Champions wannabes. In summary, while I definitely recognize the creative talent behind this book and I'm happy I finally read it, Vonnegut and I don't really click.
Novela "barroca", tanto por ambientación como por concepto, ejercicio de estilo repleto de referencias culturales. Tiene menor tensión y altura literaria que otras novelas de Eco.

One of the cool things about this book is that it takes place right before the flood. It's an interesting new perspective on the Biblical story. Of course, the main themes are not the actual Bible story but the closeness of two twin brothers, the importance reconciliation between family members, and staying close to God to stay close to goodness and knowledge.

I love this book! I think all of my girl-friends should read this book! It's inspiring, deliciously detailed, sad and yet empowering. I devoured it and can't wait for Kim Edward's next book.
Cute. Kidd is a very lyrical writer. The story was cute - hardship, love, loss, etc. Some good writing that led to great visuals.

The best of his books, in my opinion.

What's there to say? A classic in every sense of the word. Frighteningly current to today's world.

This book is like Harold and the Purple Crayon meets the Blair Witch Project, in book form. This book within a book within a book (ooh, "found" documents! warnings!!) is not only an a post-modern hat trick, but also a rip-roaring adventure yarn/love story. Hmm or...like "Eternal Sunshine," but instead of Jim Carrey's head, our hero is lost inside of the vast, featureless cave that opened up mysteriously inside of his own house. Or at least, that's ONE of the stories going on. The narrator in the footnotes might disagree...
I have a strong disliking for Murakami. The book is filled with cliches--although that may be a byproduct of a shoddy translation. I also feel like his character gives equal weight to all events (his wife abandonment gets as much attention as say the well in his back yard), which makes for an unsettling read. I don't like the protagonist, and I have a hard time identifying with his concerns. At its length, the novel drags.
