3.25 A slow read for me, but Mackie is a great character. The town and it's underground world are creepy and odd.

I still eat fast food occasionally, but that's on me, not the book. Excellent, if gross at times, read.

What I liked best about this book is that it made you think in a different way that you usually would.

Startling, disturbing and entertaining. I often didn't want these short stories to end when they did.

Love this series!
Moezzi is by far one of the best writers I have ever read. I tend to be a fiction snob, so saying this is a big step for me! I know, maybe reading a book about Muslim profiles wasn't on your to-do list (you still have to finish the Twilight series)... the point is, this book is GOOD, and you should read it as much for the clever writing style as for the content. I am finally reading it completely, and I know it's good because I find myself beating myself up for not having read it all earlier. WAR ON ERROR is a thoughtful meditation on what we all seem to forget when we watch quick coverage on the news these days -- that religion, in this case Islam, is highly personal. That there is a spectrum of devotees who you might never imagine would fall under your concept of "Muslim". (no matter how well-educated/open minded you consider yourself to be on the topic!) As you turn the pages it's as if she takes you by the hand and introduces you to them one by one. Ultimately, it's insightful while not being preachy or patronizing -- or ever running the risk of boring you. Writing page-turning nonfiction or having lines in your journalistic book that make a reader want to underline? -- *that* is a spectacular feat. Her ability to cover a sensitive topic thoughtfully and with such an engaging style means I'm keeping a close eye out for her next one.

A dark, dystopian hero tackles a dark, dystopian government. Moore doesn't allow the reader the comfort of making any of the characters uncomplicated or simple as he explores the blurry, gray line between good and evil.

What a powerful short story... the author clearly did not mean for this work to be merely entertaining for the reader. This was a very candid look at sexual abuse and all its ugliness... the abused who are made to feel so much GUILT, SHAME and FEAR that it paralyze them into silence and their abusers who because of this silence are able to continue to weld their power of abuse even years after the hideous acts were initially commited... the characters were nameless in this fictional story but these people exists... the victims...the perpetrators and those who are willing to turn a blinds eye to them both... denial never alleviates the problem only perpetuates it...

The sequel to Wake, this is another fast-paced supernatural thriller. There is some forward movement as Janie makes it through her senior year in high school but her relationship with Cabel seems to just go in circles. Kind of a popcorn book -- not a lot of depth but enjoyable while it lasts.

Another great book in this series. I couldn't put it down and now I have to wait until March of 2012 for the next one. Oh la!
