This book can be summed up in one word: pretentious. and as others have said before it's pretty gimmicky with the flip page of a shark, diagrams, etc. You probably won't be into the book enough to even care or take the time to want to comprehend what it is the author is going on about. very much "meh."

I would give this six stars if I could. Hands down- the best book I've read in years. Paul Farmer is an incredible individual and Tracy Kidder captures his complexities and beliefs perfectly, so that the reader is irrevocably altered to view the world in a different way.

I am re-listening to this book. Got to get ready for the movie!! I believe I have read this book twice and have listened to it three times. A wonderful book, my favorite. (11-07-2010) Fantastic!! Great job done by JKR. I will be re-reading next week, actually listening on tape, Jim Dale is great.

In a nutshell, Hitler was even crazier than you thought! This is not a traditional biography in the sense that it is not in chronological order. Rather the author has divided chapters by subject, such as family life, hobbies, education and even Hitler's favorite books. This makes it a very usable reference book. A quick read.

I'm honestly surprised by the number of people on GR that rated this 5 stars. While I found it a decent read at the start, it quickly lost coherence, and the vampire worldview was barely drawn in a consistent way. At first I found the heroine very likeable, a retiring, sensitive psychologist who hated shopping and loved take-out food. However, as events spiral out of her control, her moods swing wildly from one extreme to the other and I feel she loses coherence and believability. She also suffers from an excess of libido, and falls in lust with a doctor, a FBI agent, a vampire, her ex, and a chiropractor within rapid sequence. Its a bit of an excess, especially when her ex sees her in the tub naked, the FBI agent sees her in the tub naked, and Devereux reads her lustful thoughts about getting naked. I enjoyed the start, and thought the scene with Kismet and her first vampire wanna-be client was well drawn, with Kismet working on establishing a connection and conceptualizing the vampire fetish as a typical unhealthy coping behavior. But her client only serves as an introduction into the vampire world, and Kismet quickly loses interest once she sees all those hunky men. Her supernatural interactions build quickly, with a minor stalking by the head vampire, Devereux, and then attack by two vampires from another faction. Oddly, these events do not particularly rouse her fear or begin a belief in vampires. Shortly after, she finds herself accompanying the FBI agent the the vampires' dance club and hideout, the Crypt, and is introduced to Devereux's magic and mysticism. Suddenly there is a fight between vampires, Kismet is knocked up and wakes up in a coffin. The investigating officer is very confrontational with Kismet, which starts to appear like she may be targeted by the police as possible perpetrator. Instead of worrying at the mysteries, however, Kismet is mostly concerned about whether or not vampires exist, despite the abundant proof in front of her, and acting out her confusion with dramatic mood swings. The quiet, sensitive psychologist we were introduced to doesn't seem familiar later in the book. And then we jump to Harlequin romance interlude, where Devereux comes to her house and romances her into bed, using romance in the loose sense of the word, since he brings flowers and chocolate and says "I am here to make love to you." Of course, then they have real sex, he leaves because its daylight, and then they have dream sex. I confess, I started skimming at this point, because I couldn't take any more of the dialogue, Kismet's lack of belief in vampires, or the general dippiness of the vampire world.

This was a fabulous read for me,absolutely loved Webb-Roanna such strong sweet caring honest characters and their love was so deep they lived for each other protected each other and even sacrificed so much so that the other one gets happiness.It was a 5 star book for me but the climax disappointed me a little so 4.5 stars I really cried for Roanna way she suffered and changed lost her smile and willingness to live,for no fault of hers she constantly suffered so much pain anger abusings humiliation tauntings negative comments just cause of someone jealousy and no one came to protect her except Webb but then tragedy and time snatches him also from her Absolutely loved Webb,he also went through so much but he even lade the wrongs right,way he counts Roanna's smiles are cute and his determination to make Roanna happy and bring all smiles happiness and colours back into her life,the way he was shunned by everyone no one supported him except Roanna but cause of grief anger he did'nt see it but realises it later The reason for Jessie's murder spoiled the climax for me i just could'nt digest it and the killer i am angry,okay even if you try to reason out it was accident and it was in self-defence but why the silence for 10 years,it destroyed Roanna so much and destroyed 2 life's completely,least Webb should have been told but seeing it from only Webb-Roanna's love journey its a fabulous story,theirs is a true love that is so deep that for each others happiness they can even die for each other,their love gave strength to them to survive through darkness and then they meet again teach other to live again,finally they manage to pass all the hurdles and past demons and their love wins and they get their truly deserved HEA Overall a great read Recommend it

I loved this book. It was intense and I was pulled in from early on. Lauren Oliver's writing is lovely and evocative. This book takes place in a different setting than the first one. It goes back and forth between then and now sections. The then sections pick up a bit after Delirium left off and show Lena's life with the Invalids. The now sections are further down the line when Lena is working as part of the resistance. I found both engaging. I thought structuring the books like this was a good way to get to know the characters and and see what life is like for those on the other side of the fence while advancing the plot at the same time. There was a certain new development that I liked, but the ending caught me off guard. It shouldn't have, but after reading the whole book without any hints, I made certain assumptions that tuned out not to be true and this may affect how I feel about the series depending on how things play out in the next one. I found this book more enjoyable than its precedent and would've given it a higher rating if it had a proper conclusion. It feels almost incomplete. I wish I could read the next one now. 15/3/2013: 3.5 stars. I still enjoyed it, but less than the first time. (view spoiler)
