I liked the book-but I'm an adult, and while I love YA fiction, and the story was good, there were a few times I wanted to put this book down and leave it be. I found the reading level a bit below where I like my YA fiction, but Westerfield is a good enough story teller that he kept me engaged. It was a bit light on the background material. I'll pick up the sequels when I remember to, but I'm not putting it on the YA book group list.

David Sedaris is my favorite author period!!! I can't get enough of him. If I were to recommend his books to someone who was not familiar with him I would pick this book for them to read first. I find it hard to even get through the first chapter without laughing out loud. He is so easy to indentify with!

I loved this trilogy. If I ever decide to get a tattoo, it will be of a Mockingjay. The interesting thing is, I picked up Hunger Games after reading Where Men Win Glory, because I needed a "lighter" read after finishing such a heavy and heart breaking book. I heard the premise of the trilogy and that combined with it being categorized as "teen lit", made me think this would provide a fun break from more serious books in my list. I couldn't have been more wrong. This is a heavy read, that inspires similar critical questions about war and humanity that are equally apparent in Where Men Win Glory. The startling coincidence was how Katniss and Tillman were both forced into a role of being "the face" of their cause. While one embraced it, and the other rejected it, it points out war's consistent need for image enhancement or just PR efforts. At the end of both books, I was left feeling the sentiment of hopelessness and futility regarding war and its impact on humanity that I think both authors (Krakauer and Collins) aimed to portray. If I were teaching a high school class in contemporary literature, I would assign this trilogy and Krakauer's book as required reading. The final paper would be to compare and contrast the two protagonists. This was just such a great read. It's one of those books that will make it hard to start another book, because I'm just so in love with these characters.

I was forced to read this book by my ex-boyfriend and I have to say that it quite exceeded my expectations. I've never read a graphic novel before. Reading a book that is all pictures and dialogue makes it sit differently in my brain than regular novels. I like the idea of superheroes - it hearkens back to a day when we had a much more unified idea of what was evil and what was good. The book exposes the seedy underbelly of the superhero worlds - the heroes' personal lives were not so super. They did, however, use their strengths to execute justice when powers that be didn't see fit to do so. The social commentary is pretty interesting, too. I think everyone should read this book simply to experience a different kind of medium. Really interesting book.
ugh. i waited ages for this and it's beyond tedious. i hope the next one is significantly better ...

I really enjoyed reading this book. Though I am a fan of Jodi Picoult, she often has content in her books that I would prefer to skip over, but this book was not that way. In other words it was pretty PG. Picoult really examined the way that disabilities and a law suit can effect a family and friendships, which was something I had never thought about. This was one of those books where the characters and relationships were so profoundly changed that it was hard to figure a good ending. I couldn't figure out a way even I wanted it to end! This was a good book, I recommend it to those who like books with controversial topics.
Oggie is great at being himself. The story is funny... a good story to read aloud and share.
