This book is about the difficulty white collar workers have getting a new job after being laid off or taking time off or consulting. Not as good as Nickel and Dimed.

A bit ponderous, and it follows the Biblical stories a bit too strongly.

Again, with Pandora Hearts pushing forward, the strength of the series astounds me. I'm not sure how Jun Mochizuki can keep the story moving in such a way that brings the reader closer to the characters, but it really works. Despite only having two different titles under his belt, Mochizuki really seems to know what he's doing. In volume four, there is a lot of story development. A lot. There's so much going on in the story that it's a little hard to keep up with, but that's alright. We get to see little fragments of some characters that make me question their pasts and their sanity. Meeting one of my favorite characters from Alice in Wonderland makes me wonder how the rest of the familiar Wonderland characters will come about throughout the series. Also, setting is returning for a reason. There's purpose to the recycled scenery and it really makes me think that Mochizuki really thought this out before he started. Everything just seems to fall into place, although more questions keep popping up about the characters and the plot. Really, Pandora Hearts pushes the reader to think of things through the story on a deeper level. What's going to happen to the characters? How do all the facts add up? Now, I have to wait a month for the next volume because I don't read manga online. Let's see how long I can wait before I start freaking out. Give me a few days.

This one was very different -- I liked the characters, they were kooky. Parts of it are kinda creepy, and the Florida swamp setting was like a character.

In the near future the founder of the biggest on-line platform, The Oasis, dies leaving his company to first person to find an easter egg hidden in the system and the race begins. I had this in my queue and started listening to it on my ipod just before Steve Jobs died. It seemed very appropriate especially since some of the details of the founder were clearly inspired by Steve Jobs and his friendship with Steve Wozniak. I’m a child of the ‘80s and though I consider myself to be something of a geek, I am not a gamer. I still found this very engaging. Wil Wheaton did a great job with the narration. He seemed genuinely enthusiastic and pleased to be reading it.
Sometimes I love books like this, and sometimes they fall flat. I'm talking about a story within a story, or two story lines in the same book. In books like the Scroll of Seduction which I also read this year, it didn't work so well— I was much more interested in the past and not so interested in the present. I wish I could say I felt the same about Willig's book, but I can't. It is quite obvious the author is drawing a parallel between Amy and the present-day researcher and between Richard and Collin, his present-day counterpart. This irritates me. However, the historical fiction part is fabulous, so I definitely recommend this book. To be honest— not that I would say this is OK or anything— but you could probably skip the present-day bits if you wanted and still be OK. Having said all of that, though, this is the first in a series, so my oppinions are subject to change.

This one has been sitting on my shelf forever ... not a big fan of Kingsolver.
This book is funny as shit, that is, if you find shit funny. And I do. Boy, do I.

It begins with a story teller's tale of true love. Keturah becomes lost in the forest and must bargain with Lord Death to win her one more day, so that she can save those she loves and find her one true love. In the end she learns that she always knew her true love's identity within her heart. She only needed time to recognize this for herself.
