Really good sequel. With the mythology squarely established in the first book I was able to read this and just enjoy it. I'm liking the development of Clary's power and the plot twists that make me want to immediately pick up the next book.

It was not so bad i did not just like the part of the them dissing the girl about her hips, but she was a good sport by laughing it off. A very good Julia Quinn book but easily forgettable.

This was pretty good. The MySpace stuff was a bit outdated, but I do read Animorphs books, so I didn't really mind. The drama was the sort of drama you'd expect, but that was okay. I quite liked the secondary characters (which seems to be a common theme for me), and I thought the whole concept was handled pretty well. A car ride can make for pretty boring storytelling (as I know firsthand), but there was enough drama here that it all worked out well. If you're looking for a lot of substance, obviously this isn't the book for you, but for what it was, it was good.

So disappointed in this book that so many have recommended. It was just unnecessarily vulgar and obscene. Some unique and entertaining thoughts, but overall felt like the musings of a 15 year old boy.

A man who is transforming into a rhinoceros...if you didn't like Godot, this is definitely not for you. I read it for school and liked it. It makes no sense at all but it is profound
Pretty good book. Short, easy read. I don't really have any complaints except that I really wanted to know more.. **SOME SPOILERS** How the adoption was going to go and how she was going to deal with Jon and her new school, how she was going to adjust to all the kids living with her, etc.

I heard about this book on NPR as a "book to return to". http://www.npr.org/templates/story/st... First published in 1997, it has been updated (2005) Suskind, a white journalist for the Wall Street Journal, follows the life of D.C. Cedric Jennings through his high school years at Ballou and his freshman year at Brown. This is a story I thought I knew (I did teach at Whitman for many years), smart ghetto boy trying to survive the "hood", but Suskind's insight really helped me to better understand the enourmous difficulty of surviving and prospering with a terrible urban education. Barbara, his single mother and single-minded mother, is quite a force. Be sure to read the Afterword.

I decided with the Sept 11th anniversary this week, now was the time to pick up this book. It's fiction, but obviously based in fact and was food for thought without making me cry like a 9/11 episode of Dateline would. (Honestly, I did shed a tear or two, but managed to keep it together.) It's another book that manages to incorporate humour into a tragedy and the main character is interesting. I docked it one star for a slightly confusing back story involving the grandparents that ran parallel and sort of frustrated me. Definitely worth the time to read though. and I'm sure I'll see the movie when it comes out this fall.

Oh I am amazed by all the five star reviews. First of all the characters felt static. I mean they all were the same. It was more like I was told to believe a certain character felt this or that way instead of discovering it. Also the way they all acted was very annoying. "Yes we know your geniuses but could you act, oh I don't know, human!" It must have been so hard being them in such trying times and blah...It just didn't do it for me. In the end they're just whiny kids who save the world without knowing it, from a race who were gonna let them live in peace to begin with. It just felt like there was no point to this story
