This was a facinating read. It took me forever to read - it's humongous - but mostly it's because I found myself re-reading parts and pondering them after the fact. There's just something about reading the old sagas - the Kalevala, the Iliad - that pull you in. It's a totally different world, and I hated to leave it. But I love going back whenever I want. Best Christmas present I ever got. From my former asst manager at B&N, Rob. He knew me well!
I had just returned a historical fiction novel, so my librarian recommended this book to me. I didn't know it was a romance novel, but I hav to say the characters and story were well developed.

Love it. Love the Firebolt, the introduction of Sirius and Lupin. And more of the backstory about Harry's parents.

I'm loving this series. Good mix all around. I was reading the praise for the first book before starting this one and apparently the author has been a street cop, a detective, a computer forensics specialist, a crime scene investigator, and a morgue assistant. Makes the mystery part all the more realistic. It shows. That part of the story never seems awkward, which is more than I can say for another series I'm thinking of, where the author doesn't have that sort of background. On the paranormal side, I'm liking this world. Close enough to the urban fantasy books I already love to feel comfortable, but unique enough to feel refreshing. The main male leads, Rhyzkahl and Ryan Kristoff, both have that magic fear/attraction thing going on. A bit like Anita Blake's early relationship with Jean-Claude and Richard, not that I found myself mentally comparing the two series while I was reading. I guess that's where I like my paranormal creatures. I don't like the pure evil monsters or the castrated YA style monsters. I like the dangerous other. And I love Kara. She's the type of heroine you like to read about in first person. Awesome book. I'll probably start the next one as soon as I shut down the pc for the night.
I read most of her novels, I really liked them all…

A fair book. I was definitely more interested in it since it takes place in Hawaii and I could visualize a lot of the places and found the Hawaiian history interesting. Sometimes it didn't flow too well as it skipped from present day to the past.
This was kind of a fun, fluffy romance that I read in a few hours. If you know Jane Austen's books, it's fun to read but don't expect any depth.

It was a really funny read filled with "that is SO true!!" moments. I just don't know about her odd recommendations of drinking a little bit of wine while pregnant/breastfeeding. Plus, she makes breastfeeding seem like it's not *THAT* big of deal, like it's beneficial but not AS beneficial as people make it out to be... which is odd considering the colossal amounts of studies and articles that have been written about the benefits of breastfeeding.
As usual, Julie Garwood hits a home run! The Ideal Man is a great, fast paced read. The leading lady, Ellie, was strong, but not stupid. When it came to obeying what teh law enforcment told her, she listened. The hero, Max, was strong and rugged but didn't treat Ellie with kid gloves. There was excitement, action and humor all woven into a story that had multiple storylines. There are several likeable characters in this story. Sometimes too many characters get confusing, but Julie weaves them all together seemlessly. If you enjoy Julie Garwood's work, The Ideal Man won't disappoint!

I'm not a fan of Cormac's writing style. I found myself rereading the same line 4 or 5 times still unsure of what he was referring too. He did do a great job of setting up the atmosphere. I could almost see and feel the bleak, dark, nothingness of ash, asphalt and rock that was the character's world. I love that we are never told what caused this new apocalyptic world. It puts us in the place of the boy learning and exploring through his questions. However, toward the end of the book and with the end of the book I almost felt like I took this bleak and exhausting trip for no reason. I didn't feel that the characters changed or grew in any way. Maybe that the author's point. We survive, but we don't really change, and that is why this apocalyptic outcome is inevitable.
