As with all these memoirs, it is the tale of a life less ordinary. The style of the memoirs is a little disjointed and hopes from one battlefield to another. Unlike a number of other war memoirs (by German authors) Von Luck was everywhere during the war.

Found it difficult to start off, maybe just didn't know what I was getting into. I was actually able to put it down at first. Once I got into it, though, it sucked me right in like her other novels did. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I love the footnotes in the Bartimaeus books. They make me laugh. This book did not end the way I thought it would. And it caught me by surprise near the ending, but not for long. Of course, I'm not too perceptive when it comes to foreshadowing and innuendos, so I probably missed seeing it coming. Still enjoyed it.

This book was so different from what expected, but I really loved it. The writing is excellent. I did think some parts of it were slow; however, everything was fascinating. (Surprisingly, those two statements are not contradictory.)

Much like the other JP books, The Pact was most definitely an emotional rollercoaster, a page turner, and a controversial subject. I'd like to first touch on the other reviews on Goodreads- I understand that this is an emotional book. Some of the reviews were purely based on emotion stating that it was not a good book solely because the subject is about 2 teens attempting suicide. No one's review is incorrect as a review is based off of opinion. In my opinion this was an excellent book. Was it a depressing subject? You betcha. Was there a happy ending? Is there ever in suicide-you be the judge. As a book, the writing was just as impressive as JP's other books. This was a delicate and sensitive subject matter which she embraced and truly communicated how hard it can be to be a teenager. As an adult and reading this, it was easy for me to reflect back on my teen years and see the issues that JP points out as struggles. Over all, a great book. Though, based on the subject, one read was enough, but it was certainly a great read.

Grades K-5. A very fun compilation of manners for different situations illustrated by all my favorites. I've enjoyed other similar titles like Why The Chicken Crossed the Road and Knock Knock.
