Seems like of late I've been interested in reading about places I may very well never get to visit, much less understand. This book's setting is Sri Lanka in the 70s. It is a wonderful examination of social and political turmoil both within the country and within its people. A really good read (and fast too).

Before I start talking about the actual book, I just want to say how beautiful but scary the cover of this book is! I love it, but those lips are just so big... The Lipstick Laws has some serious mean girls in it. I've heard it is actually like Mean Girls but I don't know, but I'm sure it is. But the girls' meanness was believable though and it was one of the things I liked best about this book. I could see where they "found" it and what caused them to act in the horrible ways they did. One of them was revenge. April was a good main character, I understood why she wanted to get revenge on The Lipstick Law group but that didn't mean it was right. I'm so glad she finally realized it though. The friends she made when she broke The Lipstick Laws were great, and I loved reading about them. Britney. The meanest girl I have ever read about. Seriously. Some of the things she did were awful. You would not want to get that girl mad. And all her little cronies, eek! They were scary. I laughed out loud many time during the book. Because some of the things the girls did to each other, were just really funny. And then there were many other hilarious parts too! A hilarious read, but with some underlying messages. All in all a really good read!

Two surf bums from a Southern California university set off to interview successful people with a wide variety of career paths, in the interest of exposing themselves to jobs they haven't considered. Each of the interviews is summarized in 2-3 pages, so you don't learn too much about the details, and most of the subjects are male corporate executives, but it's still interesting exposure to fields that the average person may not be aware of, and some comforting tales that going a non-traditional or artistic route doesn't necessary mean ending up broke.

It took ages to really get into this book. The characters just didn't come alive. But I'm glad I read it.

I read this book when it first came out and was not into it. A few longs ago I got it as an audiobook and I thought it was great. Tina Fey reading her own story made the difference.

I didn't finish this book, but I am writing and I know this book helped ... I'm not good at morning pages, but I know we all need to learn our own way ... this is a great reference for any artist!

It was alright. The paintings sounded interesting. King seems to be getting sentimental in his old age, though. He keeps letting characters live.
tried very hard to get through it but found it very boring
There are a lot of people to keep track of and I find it easier when reading than listening. H.H. Holmes is a horrible man and it makes you sick to think of the vulnerable, unsuspecting victims. I started to feel a bit of understanding about red flags. I'm afraid at certain time in my life, had I been in the wrong place, I might have been victimized by someone like him. Horrors! It has a lot of interesting details about the World Fair in Chicago in 1893. The demon of the book, HH Holmes is a devil. It was disgusting to read and realize what and how much murder and abuse he got away with, and at the same time fascinating.
