I received this book from a treasured friend for my birthday and so even though I was familiar with the author, but had never read his books, I was anxious to begin, especially after reading the quote on the back by the Austin American-Statesman...'As memorable and meaninful as Saint-Exupery's The Little Prince."...I knew it had to be wonderful. Trememdous. I am not much of a fantasy Lord of Rings type girl, but there was a certain degree of faith infused in this read that drew me in. Notable parts: The beginning, where the story of Narcissus is recounted is UNBELIEVABLE! Quite surprising which forces us to rethink perspective on many levels. 'The secret of life though, is to fall seven times and to get up eight times.' 'IUt's the simple things in life that are the most extraordinary...' I really liked this book and read it in two days, which is very quick for me. I began reading it in the bookstore with no real intention of buying it on that trip, but found I could not put it back on the shelf. At first the main character, Kyle Kingsbury, is so sure of himself, so popular and so mean to anyone not exactly like him that he truly is a beast. BUt having the book narrated through his voice really gives the story a great spin that I think most teenagers would be able to relate to. The transformation in his personallity and thought processes are artfully set forth by Mr. Flinn. By the end of the book, I could not wait for everything to turn out okay for Kyle (now Adrian). I think it takes real talent for an author to keep me on the edge of my seat even though I already know the story. I hope Flinn keeps writing in this genre for a long time. I can't wait to read the Sleeping Beauty story.
