They are interviewing the author on Fresh Air, and it sounds so interesting!

"Roxana Saberi, was working as a freelance journalist in Iran when she was arrested in January 2009. She was released 100 days later and is now writing and speaking out about prisoners of conscience in Iran. Her book Between Two Worlds tells the story of her arrest and captivity in Iran." In prison she was accused of being a spy, asked to spy for Iran, gave a false confession because of pressure... Etc. A lot that continues to happen and I hear a lot about in the news. Still shocking to read.. Even though you know it's been happening. During much of her time in prison, she is cellmates with two bahai women from the national spiritual assembly of Iran(all 7 were in the prison). It was very good to read all about that/persecution of Baha'is in a book by a non Baha'i for once. In early August 2010, after over two years of detention, Iran’s 7 Baha’i leaders were sentenced to 20 years prison. They are still in prison.

I still love Lolita and I refuse to rate this any less than five stars, even if I wasn't as enchanted this 3rd time around. HH (as read by Jeremy Irons no less - thanks Janka-Bridges for the audio recomendation) was charming and hapless and awful as ever. I will say I picked up a lot more about the Lo character this time around. She always seemed like a cipher to me in previous readings (for good reason) but this time around I felt like I was recognizing her attempted agency. Anyway, still a work of art but despite my best efforts I had a harder time loving it in this reading.

The overall idea of the book is interesting. It reminds me of The Space Odyssey. An inanimate object that is alive and holds in it the lives of people. I find it hard to have something like that be alive, with a personality and dreams and such. The characters, I thought, were good, though some of them have severe personality changes throughout the book that seemed inconsistent. The book also ends with things unresolved. I know there's a sequel, and that the author set it up that way, but I personally don't care for cliff-hanger books. I like things to be a little more resolved. Not that I don't like sequels, but I think books should be able to stand on their own as well. Overall, I suppose it's worth reading.

This is an amazing book, and what Farnaz Fassihi did is even more amazing. It is a tragic story, but one that needs to be told and even more, needs to be read -- especially in the U.S. Be warned, though -- it is a very disturbing story and the details are gruesome at times, and heartbreaking often.

I'm on a Highlander romance marathon! This is a paranormal, time travel story with Highlanders from long ago and modern warriors as well. The author gives the reader a great mix of romance, adventure, mystery and magic. I read it almost nonstop and was up reading til almost 3 a.m.
"at this Mrs. Das gave an impatient sigh, as if she had been traveling her whole life withou pause. She fanned herself with a folded bombay film magazine written in English"

Fantastically written. An enjoyable masterpiece that combines fantasy, mystery, American history, and contemporary fiction all in one (even for those new to fantasy!)
