** spoiler alert ** Someone's Watching is a fast paced murder mystery, and it is not like every other murder mystery. Sharon Potts knows how to take her readers on a whirl wind of a roller coaster ride. From page one she has readers hooked all the way to the very last page. Robbie Ivy has liked living her simple life in South Beach. But one day, she learns things about her life that will change everything. Her father, whom she has not seen for years, comes knocking on her door. She finds our that she has had a half-sister for 18 years, and she never knew this. Her father informs her that her sister, Kate, and Kate's friend have been reported missing. Robbie is determined to find her and start a relationship with her. As the investigation is under way, Kate's friend is found dead. This causes panic among Kate's family. Robbie and her friend Jeremy, are still on the hunt to find Kate. Along the way, they uncover more then they bargained for and get mixed up with the wrong people. Bodies turn up dead, secrets begin to unfold, and the pieces start to come together. Will Robbie be able to find her sister and have the family she has always wanted? I won this book from Goodreads and am so glad I did. I could not put this book down. From page one I wanted to know what happened to Kate and her friend. From start to finish this book kept me interested. I loved Robbie's determination to find her sister. She just found out she had a sister but she still would do anything to find her. I loved the twists and suspense in the book. Ever time I thought I knew who was involved, something else came up that made me doubt it. It's not until the end where everything comes together. I love reading books like this, because once you finish, you can go back and put together all the pieces of the mystery. You can see how everything, even the little things, played a part. This was an amazing book and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a suspense filled novel!

Intriguing setting and setup, but the reader gets lost in substantial gaps between characters' motives and actions. Something essential was lost in translation.

Ayn Rand's most biographical novel reveals a lot about Ayn Rand, which is why I think I enjoyed it so much. It's shorter than the others and easier to read. I'd recommend it to get into her works.
I learned that I like books that cover a span of time greater than a few days. This one was a bit much, as it went over more than 15 years and kept making skips of three. There was no big conflict/climax except the part with Thomas and Redburke, but the end was still done well with Morgan, her mom, and Merlin. I did not understand all the "fate" things, but I suspect Morgan's unpredictability was expected. It was good to read her muses of later, when she would interupt a little of the story with her thoughts as an immortal being. It set the pace and foreshadowed ominously. My favorite part of the whole thing was when Cerunnos told Morgan to embrace her reflection in the pool!

Couldn't wait for the next book. Even my 12 year old daughter loved it.
I've been meaning to read Bill Bryson for a long time now (especially "The Lost Continent"); he's from my home state, he's a fairly prolific travel writer so one would think he must have something of worth to share, and I've heard nothing but promising things from friends. Four chapters in and I find myself torn between wanting to go out and hike the AT to experience it for myself and wanting to never again go camping without the safety of a motor home and tens of my closest comrades. This is one of the more reality-check-based travel accounts I've read of just about anywhere, which is a welcome change from the often overly-romanticized narratives that tend to grace the shelves of most travel sections. It's thought-provoking, humorous, an easy yet engaging read, and well worth the time invested (which is considerably less than the time invested in the path from cover to cover).

Where I found Hammerfall fairly difficult to get into, this is Cherryh on form, moving between the planet below and the station above, the tech and the politics that affect each, and the fragile alliances that people (and aliens!) build in uncertain situations. If you're not a fan of Cherryh's highly political books, you won't like this one. I love the way she writes complex machinations, so I was thrilled! It does have her standard "character who gets into water way too deep for him and then has to figure it out," this time in the persona of one of Marak's watchers, who started out a little annoying and got considerably less so as the plot heated up. I guess the best way to sum this up is that it in no way is an *unusual* book for her. If you've read a lot of her station-based sf, then you will have an idea of the sorts of maneuverings that go on, enlivened by a bunch of biotech. That's an observation, not a criticism -- most of Cherryh's *bad* work stands head and shoulders above the rest of the genre. It's an enjoyable, well-paced, thoughtful political thriller in the vein of some of her others.
