Pretty well written and shows how mid-life can hit you when you least expect it. I think it is a book that might give reason for thought about some decisions we make without thinking about the long term effects (relationship choices). It is by a best-selling Brit author and I enjoyed the references to London...also some of the British terms and phrases.

This book models excellent giving behavior. The sheep tear the shop apart (because these sheep are hell bent for destruction), but when they are short money to buy a friend's birthday present their creative and generous solution is to shear (share) their wool to pay for the present. AND it's a blast to read -- lots of good word combinations. Margot Apple's pictures are lovely. Arthur loves the Sheep Books.

Great book! Kept me on the edge of my seat. Great characterization and I couldn't even predict the plot. Great combination. A middle aged woman receives a long lost letter in the mail. Apparently it had been lost in the post office for close to 50 years. It prompts a search of her past and some introspection. Were the decisions she made based on not getting the letter which had the answer to an importan question in it still valid decisions? Her daughter goes out to discover the answers and discovers a whole new world. A world of three aging sisters trapped in the family castle. Trapped by secrets by misdeeds even deaths. Could not go to bed until I finished it. Story travels from World War I to the present day, set in England.

While the story proved interesting, all 3 books honestly, this last was really one of the worst written. Loaded with telegraphed dialogue, I knew what was coming most of the time - not what I look for in a mystery novel.

I loved the character & story line of this book, but it has a crass sexual part - not long or detailed, but sprinkled here & there just enough to make it hard to skip them & not part of the story. Am also not thrilled about the occasionally use of profanity, including the "f" bomb. I almost chose it for our book group, until I quickly reviewed it (because I had read it a couple years ago - remembered really liking the story but not liking something about the book)and remembered what it was that kept me from rating it a 4 or 5.
