This was good, and a roller coaster of emotions, but the hype may have overtaken it's actual value...Definitely worth reading, but I don't know about the "sequels". I liked "Five People You Meet in Heaven" better, but that's probably because I'm obsessed with anything relating to boardwalk society, circuses, traveling shows, and Coney Island between 1900 and 1950.

For being written without the cooperation of the author, this book was not as bad as I thought it could be. To Kill A Mockingbird is one of my favorite books, and to read a bit more on the backstory of the author really brought TKAM into a new light for me. This is more of a history of TKAM and anecdotes about Harper Lee than a biography, however it is still a good read.

Often heart rending and opening, Cormac McCarthy has a great Hemingway style of minimalism in his words. Much is spoken between lines, between friends. I enjoyed but quickly forgot the movie adaptation, but the book is where it's at. more later...

I bought this book at the middle school book fair because last year, the seventh-grader I read with once a week finished this book with me, and it was a great triumph -- his first ever chapter book. I had read almost all of it in snippets, but I decided to sit down and read it one evening. It really is a wonderful option for the kids I read with at school. It's a chapter book about middle school, but it has a lot of drawings and good humor to make it comfortable enough for these students. Many of them are years behind in reading level, but this gives them a great place to gain confidence.

This was the first Connie Willis book that I read. The thing that I like the best about the book is how she emphasizes the importance of chaotic elements in innovation of new ideas. Because I am a chaotic person I found this immensely appealing.
