I have always found religious/Christian scholarship fascinating, and Pagel's discussion of the secret gospel of Thomas is groundbreaking to how Christianity shaped itself over the centuries, and how "subjective" the creation of modern-day faith has become.

I really like Ann Lindell as a character, but this book was so slow going I found it hard to keep interested. My bookmark advanced at a pace of a page or two a day, and that never bodes well for my actually finishing something. If anyone has read this & liked it, please let me know & I'll try it again.

Listened to this book. Totally delightful. And Neil Gaman did a wonderful job narrating it.

String theory has recently been under fire, but this is still a fascinating book. His introductory primer on relativity is worth reading in any case.
When I saw that Alexandra Bracken was coming out with a new book, I knew I had to read it. When I read Brightly Woven, I loved it. While The Darkest Minds is a dystopian, not a fantasy, Alexandra Bracken did a wonderful job with it. Ruby is a wonderful main character. Even though none of us know what it is like to be in her position, while reading, you feel like you know how it is. You really connect with her and what she is feeling. This was a wonderful, fast-paced story that I think almost everyone will be able to connect with. I am eagerly awaiting the sequel, Never Fade, that is coming out later this year.

This book is stunning in its harsh, bleak portrayal of a man and his son wandering through the ash-filled ruins of America after an unspecified apocalyptic catastrophe. Nothing except humans appear to have survived. Food is running out, and gangs of human predators have turned to cannibalism to survive. The man and his son are headed south, for no good reason other than it may be warmer there, and it's better than just waiting for death. The story is told in simple, terse, but beautifully crafted prose. And yes, I consider this to be a science fiction novel. The post-apocalyptic novel is a staple of the genre, like the classic A Canticle for Leibowitz byWalter M. Miller Jr.. Despite the rather bleak prospects for any survival of the human race, this is ultimately a story of love and hope. Not many books bring a tear to my eye, but this one did. I can't recommend it highly enough. I also really loved the movie. The post-apocalyptic America looked EXACTLY as I had imagined it.

The decline of a family. This is another giant complex book I read when I was bored in tenth grade. I remember being slightly sad at the decline of the family...but not overly so. They were rich at one point, so I didn't feel too badly for them!

While the stories do take a similar tint after a while, the power of her storytelling and the beautiful language make this a perfect collection...
