This was an edgy, interesting book. I haven't read anything else by Donnelly to compare this to, but I thought it was decent. It did drag for me in parts. It seems like YA books are getting longer and longer. I liked the musical references (even though I didn't recognize half of them), but I had mixed feelings about the main character. Overall, I did enjoy it and the fact that I learned some things about the French Revolution.

This book moved quickly. It describes 2 young men named Wes Moore, growing up on the streets of Baltimore at the same time. One becomes a Rhodes Scholar, and one is serving a life sentence in prison. The Wes Moore who graduated from Johns Hopkins researched the "other Wes Moore" and wrote this book to compare and contrast their lives and the choices and circumstances that led them to either a successful life or prison. The bottom line: a strong mom, with some education and resources. That can make all the difference.

Good as a reference. Not pleasant to read front to back.

Hard to get into, even though I usually adore Oates' books

I am apparently the only person on the internet to love this book, and I am willing to take on that burden for everyone else. April Rabbits probably contributed to my love of list-making and my latent regard for springtime. And bunnies.

Loved this book!
This book is a number of short stories connected by the main character, Olive. I was taken by her, but wondered if others would like Olive. She is a bit unusual. I asked others who read it if they liked Olive. So far the response has been positive. I definitely recommend this book.

Except for the ending, a great chronicle of growing up in the 90s even if you're not from the UK. The frustration of adult life not taking off as quickly as you would want prefaces the confusion that it didn't happen as you would have imagined, if you had imagined any of it at all....which frankly I certainly didn't at that age. Quick read - this one is for you Aimee!
