Definite recommend! The subject matter is worth 5 stars, but the style is rather pedestrian....still a great insight into all the legal ways large transnat agencies screw poor countries over.

I really like the movie better than the book. That said, this book is simple and sweet. Dorothy is swept to Oz by a cyclone, and she makes three great friends along the way. The Scarecrow (wanting a brain), the Tinman (wanting a heart), and the Lion (wanting courage) journey with her to see the Wizard to ask for the things they want. They have quite a few adventures along the way.

This book was well-written, but just didn't really hold much interest for me. Its informative if you're wondering about Guinean customs of the mid-20th century, but it's just not something I would normally pick up to read. I'll be interested to see what the book group has to say tomorrow.

this is one damn book you can read over and over, its so utterly fascinating.. you get touchy at times, ruth is so vulnerable a character, u cannot help admiring and sympathising with her. the way she looks at life and the essence of it, it killed me. and hats off to jane hamilton, i thoroughly enjoyed going through each line of it.

Diese Verschwörungstheorie über Verstrickungen der katholischen Kirche mit der Mafia in Finanzgeschäften und über einen möglichen Mord an Papst Johannes Paul I. ist sehr spannend und gut geschrieben für so eine Dokumentation, allerdings fragt man sich, so umstritten das Buch ist, was ist nun wahr... Wenn es aber nur ein Teil davon sein sollte, was hier erzählt wird, reicht das schon aus, um schockiert zu sein, selbst wenn man mit Kirche nicht viel am Hut hat.

Totally wacky, as a good children's book should be. I've never eaten a steak and kidney pudding, so I can't really relate to this character ;) , but some of the adventures and dialogue really cracked me up. There were a number of songs, which I don't normally enjoy, but these were quite humorous and a little on the order of Dr. Seuss. I wonder if Mr. Geisel ever read this book. This is another of those "I wish I'd read this as a kid" kind of stories, as I'm pretty sure it would have earned a higher star count if I had.
