So much of what I love about Sarah Vowell is her crazy awesome voice, so reading her tales was just slightly less enjoyable than listening to her tell them on This American Life.

Much more intriguing than I had expected. I occassionally got glossy-eyed with the science talk, and the framework of the story of Skloot tracking down the Lacks was the least interesting part. Otherwise, informative and heart-wrenching. Most incredulous part...when scientist Hsu that the author informed the Lacks' didn't consent to the DNA testing she did (and thought it was cancer screening) says basically, "oh, id like to do more bloodwork on them"! 3 or 4...

This was good, but I definitely liked A Thousand Splendid Suns more.

Honestly, out of all the Song of Ice and Fire books, this was my favorite. The struggle against the Supernatural Others was easily the best part of the book, and the prologue was probably the best of them all.
Cliff-hanger writing that followed all the best (read: bad) advice of the write-your-own-bestseller gurus. But the guy sure did make a ton of money.

This book had a slow start, but I really enjoyed it. I might be a little biased because I have a bunch of ancestors who fought in the Revolutionary War, though, and one of them even got mentioned a few times in the book. I found it kind of fascinating to get a glimpse of what their life might have been like back when New Hampshire and Vermont were the frontier.
Not just a good book in a genre otherwise not known for them, Devil's Cape wraps a crime story in a very "New Orleans" sister city in a story about burdgeoning super heroes, and somehow manages to do so convincingly. Not for the faint of heart, as the criminals are real and ruthless, and the so-called heroes unsure and untested, but if you're a fan of these type of genre books, it's definitely a fun read.

Maybe the book is about things everyone knows, and it might seem intuitive and logical. However, placing these rules and tips in the form of points that alert the mind to them.
