far too short. Anis should've waited till he had more popularity and poetry to publish this. though i must say, what lacks in length is excelled by its lasting substance. there is a great spiritual personality in his writing. everything you read possesses both a comforting locality and a beautiful surreality. it's one of the nicest things to experience as a reader when you think to yourself: 'exactly! i know just what you're talking about!'. you get that tingle on the inside and an excited smile forms. it's like, what was before gazing upon an overflowing fountain glimmering in the summer sun, to now finding out you're allowed to jump in, you get this overwhelming sensation of connection with the author and actual involvement in the writing, which establishes a fresh vibrato that bounces back and forth between writer and reader. One of his poems- The Owls nothing comes not the ghosts not the sorrow only a vapid emptiness a long quiet of a man sipping from a cup and shifting the pages at his desk some fall into his lap he leaves them there when he stands they fall to the floor like fish from the news he doesn't even pull out a knife to clean them of their bones he doesn't even hear when the mice do it for him swallowing the eyes taking the silver skins to wear over their shoulders like the moon hiding their thin hands from the owls outside the man stares out the window watches the black confusion of the birds and sees a thousand little scrapes of light running over the earth -------------------------- although one of his shorter poems, they all ring with a voluptuous strangeness of human nature, and of nature itself. most times you don't even want to know the purpose of the poetry, you just like reading the words and being part of a story. but for how good the stuff is, i'd suggest going to youtube and watching his spoken word work if anything. he's a two-time national champ of the poetry slam, and its on stage where his words really harness their magic. his delivery is unmatched, he knows how to perform. so keep a ready eye on him for future works and tours, he's well worth the watch or the read.
