All the highlights of a trip across the country with the author's two boys. Another inspiring book that can give you the travel bug. The stories are disconnected but that can be good if you take your time reading a book. Definitely worth the read.

Surprisingly effing good! I say surprisingly because I ignored this series of books for so long when they kept popping up on my recommended reads on Amazon. As is usually the case, when I finally gave in I found that I loved Moon Called and wanted to spend the next few days holed up with the other books in the series. Reality impinged on that idea but I assure you I will be procuring and devouring them as soon as possible!

This is probably my favorite poetry book. Because of the poems in it, and the sentimental value of it :) My copy is a first edition 1927 that belonged to my grandmother. I love how she marked her favorites :)

Water for Elephants grabs you from the beginning and then leisurely takes you on a very strange journey with a circus train. Oddly, the circus-coming-of-age story told by the 20-something year old Jacob was interesting but not as riveting as I'd hoped. What I really enjoyed and got quite emotional reading were the chapters told by the 90-something year-old Jacob in the nursing home. They were so personal and had so many insights into old age. I'd love to know how Gruen was able to write so eloquently and with such empathy. Anyone caring for elderly would benefit from reading Water for Elephants.
