This book was mainly about my great-great-great grandmother Sarah Ann Franks and her trip from England to the Salt Lake valley. I really liked this book because it gave me a great appreciation for her story and the sacrifices that she made for the gospel. She was/is an amazing woman!!
Didn't think I would enjoy this but was pleasantly surprised. The book is narrated by our main character Miss July who was born a slave in Jamaica. At times the story is funny. At times, filled with great sadness. Such a well written book. Miss July endures much hardship as a slave & also as a free woman. But she is such a clever, likeable character that the reader is keen to follow her story.
Corum's a great hero, even before he loses his hand. Good sword and sorcery.

I did not expect to like this as much as I did, but it had us absolutely roaring throughout. We took our time reading it aloud to each other, as evidenced by the year it took us to finish.

Maybe I didn't write a review whenever I finished the audiobook because I was SO glad it was over that I didn't even want to think about it for another second. The book had all the right ingredients to be a page turner-- but I dreaded getting in the car to listen to it, stuck with it since the series has been incredibly popular-- but I don't get the hype. Barely held my interest. Went from one action scene to another without a compelling story or enough character development to keep it interesting to me. Won't read/listen to another

A friend had lent this book to me over five years ago. Then, I had found it instructive, informative, and helpful, and I had always meant to get my own copy. I finally did this year. Rereading it now, I wonder how much of it is still relatable to Asian-Americans in this day and age. Perhaps still many. While the author provided some advice for both companies looking for diversity and for Asian-Americans, the book's strength seemed to be as a vehicle for letting other Asian-Americans know that they are not alone, and that they can break the bamboo ceiling.

Henry Eyring was an amazing member of the church. He was very smart, yet very humble and always trying to help lift others around him. This book helped show a great man that avoided boosting himself up.

Read this for Erin's mother/daughter book report for her English class. I think I read it in about 7th grade, and as I re-read it, I realize there were probably parts that completely went over my head the first time! It's still a good read.
Always on the lookout for a clever crime novel, when this one showed up on the New Fiction table at Bankrupt Megastore, it went directly onto the want list. Got it for Christmas. (Thank you, Santa!) In this story a man calling himself David Loogan gets involved with crime fiction magazine editor's wife. The editor soon ends up dead and more bad things happen in quick succession. The story hooks you strongly in the first 70 pages and then messes a bit with your expectations as you continue. Cool story, lots of fun, zippy style. I plowed through it. Part of the fun is the way the author pokes fun of or works in the usual mystery clichés, since several of the characters in the book are mystery writers. Also, it's fun to read a stand-alone story, i.e. one not part of a series with a recurring character. Highly recommended.
