Really clever and funny voice, very well paced. I thought the end was a bit rushed, though.

A beautifully crafted, elegantly written story, as well as an interesting look at the Congo as it emerged from colonial rule. There are passages that stir my soul, and telling the story through different narrators whose unique personalities color what they see is a great literary device.

I keep seeing the word 'swashbuckling' used to describe this, but really that's exactly what it is. A tale of 4 honorable men who fight for their beliefs and each other, and of their battle against corruption and plots of betrayal against their Queen. Although it is a rather old and sometimes long-winded tale, it's still very much a classic. After all, who doesn't recognize 'One for all and all for one!'?

There were some funny moments. In general, it read like mediocre-to-fair fanfiction. I find most of the descriptions pointless. The character's physical appearance - okay. What they ate and how it tasted - Who cares, unless it's a vital part of the story? Who edited this? They should be fired or forced to read nothing but Twilight from now on. Most of her descriptions remind me of what I do during NaNoWriMo when I've run out of story but I still need to up my word count. I'll probably finish the series (trilogy?), if the library has it. If not...meh.

I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the movie. An epic novel with alot of action. The Middle Eastern and Indian culture backdrops are especially interesting, I learned alot.
Incredibly depressing, but also supremely written. Glad I finally picked this one up.

completamente atrapante e ingenioso... se tiene que ser muy buen escritor para describirte el mundo de los olores a través de las palabras y que logres comprender a un personaje que tú bien sabes que esta mal

A favorite of mine. A sad, beautiful study of misunderstanding, youth, and family relationships. No loose ends, and no static characters. I empathized with both sisters, which is rare.

No matter what your station is in life, what your career is, what your interests are, there is a lot to be learned in this book... I found it absolutely fascinating.

Here's the thing: I like Jennifer Weiner. In terms of developing a narrative, she's probably one of the most refreshing chick-lit writers out there, because she doesn't fall back on the trite searching-for-Mr.-Right-and-meeting-him-accidentally formula that sadly characterizes most of the genre. I avoided this book for a long time because it's about a subject (new motherhood) that I can't currently relate to, and hope not to be able to relate to for several more years. But I did find it surprisingly relatable (particularly the mom who tries to do everything herself and has a spectacular meltdown as a result) and, even though she's not the best humor writer (I could swear most of her jokes and situations are lifted from old episodes of Friends), I still find Jennifer Weiner kind of charming.
