This book may lack a true plot, it is a powerful love story. I have read all of the books in this series. The characters of Mason and Jessica are explosive together even though the actual sex between them doesn't happen to the last 1/4 of the book. I enjoyed the return of Alyssa and her interactions with Mason. Really looking forward to the next book in September.

With his background in economics, the success of Moneyball and some surprisingly good fortune, Michael Lewis turns his eyes to the recent evolution of football. The book focuses on the meteoric rise of the left tackle in the contemporary game by examining the development of Michael Oher. In a surprisingly quick read, Lewis describes how a teenage street youth with little formal education transformed into one of the most sought after players in the nation over a few years. Although the work presents an amazing story of achievement, it is hurt by the fact that the protagonist has yet to reach the lofty heights that are described throughout. This is no fault of Lewis for putting the pen to paper but rather a concern that the book places too much emphasis on the potential future achievements than those of the present day.

I read this book back in the early 80s, and I'm currently re-reading the 25th anniversary edition, which is essentially the same book, but has additional comments from Michael as notated by other people than those used in the original edition. The differences are quite small but potentially important. I don't know if Michael is what they say they are: a group entity of human souls on their way back to re-integration with the source of all souls. At this particular stage in their evolution, it is their task to impart what they see as reality to those of us on lower planes of existence. Personally, this makes a lot of sense to me. To quote Heinlein, "God split himself into a myriad parts that he might have friends. This may not be true, but is no sillier than any other theology." (Lazarus Long, Time Enough for Love) It really explains *why* God created man, in a way that religion never has.

A pretty good read but NOT the next The Secret History, as one cover blurb says. Still waiting for that one...
I *quite* liked this book - there are moments of beauty - but on the whole it was all a little predictable. However, the plot is quite well constructed and I would strongly recommend it to anyone who thinks Dan Brown is an excellent writer, as a way of weaning them off his particular brand of utter rubbish...

I got a little frustrated with this one towards the end because the CDs were skipping (the downside to borrowing audio books from the library). I loved the multiple narrators and their Southern accents really added to the charm of the story. The Help is a really good story, full of really well-developed characters and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to seeing the movie too, which I've heard is even better than the book.
Some of the stuff seems to work but I think my daughter my already be too old for toddler-ese. She'll be four in a few months.

An interesting read on NYC opulence.

I read this book in one day, which for me is quite a feat as I read slowly. It kept my interest the whole way through. I thought it was a good mixture of adventure, history, romance, and values. Whenever I read a children's book, I look for books that can teach something to the children and this one definitely can do that. I learned a lot about the Puritan religion, although I realize that this is just the author's point of view of Puritans and may not be actual fact.
