This was a fun read based on mythology from Iceland. I enjoyed the way that the mythological figures were shown as basically human with special powers that allowed them to interact with all of the other life forms: people, dwarfs, giants, etc. It was also interesting to read how Christianity began to infiltrate this culture and the conflicts and compromises that ensued.

Read this years ago and listening now on audio. Starts out with a bang. Powerful take on white/western privilege in first couple of pages! "Let me claim that Africa and I kept company for a while and then parted ways, as if we were both party to relations with a failed outcome. Most have no earthly notion of the price of a snow-white conscience."
