This graphic novel is the spitting image of the book. When i saw this in whitcoulls i thought "i must have it." It is a must-read to all of those who have read the real book. This book is almost exactly the same as the novel, just in graphic. A boy gets kicked out of his school and his friend gives him an address to a demigod summer school, where he gets caught up in all the Greek gods, myths, and legends. Then he realises he is the son of a Greek god, Poseidon and he is being accused of stealing the master lightning bolt, the weapon of the Great God Zeus. He then must go on an epic quest to return what was stolen. I liked this book because its exactly the same as the real novel, word for word. and it was a laugh to read it in drawn form. The bit i dont like about this book is that Percy Jackson is twelve, and in no part of the whole book did he act his age, more like a 16 - 18 year old. i give this graphic novel a 4 out of 5. Jake

omg so sad yet so exciting :o
I love Michael Chabon, but haven't read much of his early stuff. Pre-Pulitzer, he is much lighter and accessible. This is about a recent college grad discovering himself, and making bad decisions. I loved it.

I just read this book it was so good.
A mix of fictional and real characters paints a rich portrait of an industrial city from a period of strength in the late forties to the beginning of serious decline in 1969. From the blue collar "ethnics" (my people) to the mafia to baseball of a bygone era, Mark Winegardner weaves together a fascinating array of stories and people. The writer, a onetime Cleveland resident, captures the personality of the city so well. His dialogue for those blue collar "ethnics" is spot on. And along the way, I learned about my hometown's history as well as a piece of American history -- the Steel Belt/Rust Belt era. I often found myself calling my grandmother back home for her recollections of events in the book. The "Crooked River" is the translation of "Cuyahoga River" (the original Indian name), and the burning, well -- if you are too young to remember, that's another good reason to check out the book.

This book was very positive. Like another reviewer said it was the retelling of the Blind Side but from the Family's perspective which was itneresting. Definitely should read if you loved the Blind Side.
I really liked this book. Great if you don't hate SF/fantasy, or if you have an active imagination.

A beautifully written story of a boy and his dogs. But oh so much more than that. Be patient...
