I read an essay by Stephen King recently lamenting the demise of the set 'em up knock 'em down brand of story telling. He's right of course. It seems that no longer happens in "serious" literature. I think King would enjoy this book. It occupies that treasured middle ground that doesn't pander to the lowest common denominator but doesn't make you feel like you're being asked to read Beowulf in the original Olde English. We need a category name for books that manage that feat.

Read 24 Apr to 10 May 2011. Listened 19 April 2013 to 15 May2013: First time as an audiobook. (I believe my fourth overall.) Love it so far. Apparently, April/May is when I'm in the mood for this read. Always a great story, and the audiobook was fantastic. It left a smile on my face, just as Pride & Prejudice should. Listened 12-24 February 2016: Clearly due for another time through this book. This time listening to Rosamund Pike's narration, which is terrifically delightful.
