I picked this book up simply because I loved the title. Notaro is hilarious, silly, thoughtful and so very human and flawed. I felt like I'd read a long email from a girlfriend when I finished it. Plan on hunting down her other books now.

Great book ... good, light reading story if you just want the surface. You also get a great travelogue of Venice, with descriptions of many famous places, plus some of the sights, sounds, and lots of the flavors of Venice. Then, of course, there is the story of the friendship between the two Sisterchicks ... and finally there is the spiritual inspiration the book delivers. Great!

This has been one of my favorite books since I was in middle school, and I actually wrote an essay on it that got me into boarding school. I reread it every few years, and it still has a special place in my heart...I'll never forget how I felt when I read it and for the first time really understood what happens at the end.

A real life story does not have a conclusion sentence that reiterates the struggle of a life and the meaning of the title all in one. Life doesn't naturally produce meaning behind each moment and connect them together in a satifying everything-happened-for-a-reason sort of way. And a life story shouldn't either. Maya Angelou understands that.
Fantastic! The description of desperate poverty and separation; the determination of people (esp Ma Yan) to be educated is a lesson for us all. So pleased that the sales of the book helped her and her family.

I don't know how to really grade this book. I liked it, and it developed some of my favorite characters, but Martin is doing way too much. I could follow each plot, but there is so much going on that its not as fun as the other books.
Pretty gruesome. Unpredictable.

One of Dickens best books. He is a master at intertwining plots and subplots with innumerable characters and never loosing sight of the least one. It is, as most of Dicken's novels are, a daunting proposal when you examine the heft of the book, but once you get started you are so caught up in the story being woven that you are left wanting more. Bleak House chronicles the tale of cases tied up in Britain's probate court with a satirical look at the legal process of the day. The ironies of the court translate to current times well, making it both timely and a wonderful time capsule of the era in which it was written.
A HUGE help in figuring out what to expect each month of pregnancy and answers the question "is this normal?!?"
