Even though I never served in a war zone, I connected with these women, as I served in the military in an electronics career field which was newly opened for women back in the mid-70s. Laughed and cried at the stories. Very good read.

This was a great story about a boy, a couple old men, a few fishing poles, and life. Slow to start but it really is one of those warm fuzzy feeling kind of books.

This book took me a while to read for several reasons. For one thing, at the time I started it, I was also working through the massive "Christianity: The First Three Thousand Years." I almost always have 2 or three books going at once so I can switch off depending on my mood and concentration level. Also, my Sabbatical ended while I was working on this volume, which meant I had far less time to read. Most importantly though, and what kept me from giving this collection 5 stars, is that it starts quite slowly. The collection is arranged in order of publication date. With the early stories being written as early in Kipling's career as 1884-5, what we have is far from the work of the accomplished author he was to become. They're not juvenalia and each story on its own stands up just fine but taken together the first 10-15 stories tend to be a bit "much of a muchness." By the time the reader reaches the classic "The Man Who Would Be King," however, the situation changes. Now we have a mature Kipling, confident in his craft. The plots and characters are far more varied as is the diction. From that point forward, the book is a delight. A hitherto undiscovered treasure for me was "The Brushwood Boy" and I was pleased to run into my old friends Puck, Dan and Una in "The Knife and the Naked Chalk," a chapter from "Rewards and Fairies." Only Kipling's two forays into science fiction marred my pleasure. I found both "With the Night Mail: A Story of 2000 AD" and "As Easy as A.B.C.: A Tale of 2150 AD" to be unreadable. I've been a fan of Kipling's verse and stories since I was a child. The reservations expressed above notwithstanding, this is a solid addition to my library. I recommend it but remember to take it slowly through the first quarter or so of the book to allow the slighter stories to have room to please your palette before you devour the heartier fare to come.

If you intend to do some serious reading of Anglo-Saxon literature, this is very helpful. It also provides nice insights into modern English and its historical development. This is definitely not for impressing your friends, unless you can somehow work the first paragraph of Beowulf into the conversation.

I thought that this book was extremely hear-warming. It was very sad and it made you remeber how great ful are and how we should give thanks to all that we have. Greg, takes so many sacrifices for the people in Korphe, Pakistan. It reminded me and my peersof how important t is that we give back.

I did enjoy this book, but that's about it. The narrator is an unreliable (hence the title) teenaged girl who has apparently murdered her (best) friend. That is the opening lines of the story. As the tale unfolds, it's hard to see where the truth is, if it is there at all. Overall, the book was an interesting take on the occupation of Guernsey, but I just didn't like the narrator's voice enough to feel connected to her and that made the book only a 3 star for me.

This book earns 5 stars in the YA genre. This book was just plain FUN. This is the perfect book when you have those the-house-will-never-be-clean or being-a-mom-is-hard days. I laughed out loud and got a kick out of the book-long romantic tension. One of my favorite things about the book is that the relationship actually develops. They have fun together, joke around, experience life before the relationship ever begins. Keep in mind that the book contains the F word (not a lot, but it's there) and the book mentions sex and uses some vulgar terms.
