Have you ever had one of those books that was just ok? There wasn’t anything bad or exciting about it. It didn’t make you go “wow this book is incurable” or “this is dread it bores me to death it just ,fair. Well I have read books like that before but one in particular was the book holes. Holes was adventurous and even had a mystery that kept you wondering. It had great characters, a normal setting and even the plot the was really good but it lack something. Holes was a book about a boy named Stanley Yelnats who has bad luck due to a curse placed on his great- great-grandfather, because of bad luck one day he is accuse of stealing a pair of sneaker. He sent to camp Green Lake ,a juvenile detention camp for crime he didn’t commit. As punish he was to dig holes at this cramp. He meets then meets his camp mates that it’s not exactly the welcome committee., but time moves on he his room mates become more that become best friends. Throughout the book he later he finds the reason why the warden wants the to dig hole and in the process he finds out the real why his family is cursed. The thing that really kept me reading this book was the big mystery or the plot behind it and how it connected to the main character. Actually without the whole plot of the this particular story the main character would not really be exciting. It was like the plot supported the main character because nothing was actually happen to him in more along the lines that certain events took place around him which made the story a like able. I guess what I didn’t like about this book was that you kinda already knew what was going to happen most of the time. For instance when Stanley was since to the cramp and happen to stumble a upon clues and un know secrets 2 family’s miss fortune. Then how the mystery or the cramp green lake would tried into that. The outline of the mystery was typical but the telling of it was different. Holes is a really good book but that is just is it good but not great. To me I would read it and put it down for a while then later I might read it again. It's not book a that I will never read in my life after reading once but it also not a book I would like to read all the time because I can’t get Enough of it . I Had to rate this book from 1-10 and 10 being the highest it would have to a 7. Overall the story was enjoyable , the characters were interesting and the adventure definitely there.

This story & the movie that Sean Penn made of it is so incredibly real. I could feel Christophers emotional life and the yearning he felt so acutely. I loved it. One of my all-time favorite stories.

Great conclusion to a great trilogy. Lloyd Alexander does it again! The writing is superb and the characters are great.

This book is very thought provoking-is is OK to have a child to try to save another one's life? It also had a surprise ending.

I tied, I tried. Even though I was a bigg fan of Mr. Baker's previous novel PARADISE ALLEY I just couldn't get through this one. I found the characters to be uncompelling, and the writing to be over wrought. I finally gave up just over halfway through it.

There seems to be a fantasy genre of 'young boys who are orphaned to some extent and discover they are the chosen one and possess special abilities with which they must save the world'. However, that didn't stop me enjoying this book. It was a light read, probably meant for younger readers than me, but I really liked the characters, and celtic mythology is always interesting as well.
