I picked this book out of the new reads at the library on a whim. The story was good - held my attention enough to distract me from the torture of the stair mill at the gym and most of the pain of getting a tattoo - but the sex scenes were a bit excessive. OK book though and good story in between the steamy, overly descriptive sex scenes...

there is such strong storytelling within "forgetfulness". Just manages to highlight dysfunctionalities of american society, and weave questions on mercy and justice (and revenge) into a surprisingly quick read. the thoughtful moral urgency exhibited by the protagonist and his crisis of conscience following his wife's murder by moroccan terrorists compose the core of the novel. worth reading though there are too many digressions.

Hayes is the foremost authority to the western world on everything Ninja. I would give this book an "R" rating, too, however.

Definitely not as good as Prep. This book was so-so, not horrible but not great...

I enjoyed this book all the way through. It painted a vivid portrait of the young family, first-person narrator Kenny and his brother and sister and their parents. They were wacky, wonderful, loving, happy, sad, frustrating to each other, each doing the best they could individually and together. That would have been enough to make it a good book on its own, but it was also an essential set-up for the last critical chapters. Suffice it to say that in spite of all the hints, even in the title, I still wasn't prepared for the last two chapters. It's amazing how much emotional wallop Curtis was able to deliver without varying from Kenny's same, matter-of-fact descriptive style. If I wanted to introduce young readers to the time of the civil rights movement in the U.S., this would be the "hook" I'd use to get them to care about it before I tried to introduce facts and details about what happened.

I love books about books: books telling you what to read, how to read, when to read, why to read, etc. If you don't, this is likely not your book. If you do, it's right up your alley. This is a fun, tidbit-packed look at the modern novel. With a wry, humorous, and decidedly British voice, the author discusses the novel's history, form, and components, all with an eye toward helping the reader bring a bit more context to his/her reading. Each chapter is a self-contained essay and reads very well alone. The author lards each essay with such a variety of current-event and historical factoids that beg to be read aloud at the luch table (causing my husband, more than once, to shout "how is this book organized?").

I loved reading these books as a girl. The movies especially, were a big part of my childhood. You have to love Anne.

Very nice. Very good book to read. I am very glad I chose this book to read. Not boring at all, not dragged out, but yet well written. I wonder only how much is 'fiction' and how much is not.

I really loved this book. It is one that I would purchase and read again every few years.
