I've read this book so many times now it's ridiculous. This book has inspired mee in so many ways, the main character Case fights to restore his dreams in life while doing what he loves. This is a story of love, rehabilitation, computers, and female ninjas. One of the greatest Cyberpunk novels of all time.

If you are going to have any chance of enjoying these books, you'd better bring a few things to the table: (a) some understanding of who was who in the Elizabethan Age; (b) some background in British history, Faerie and the story of Lucifer; (c) a lot of tolerance for discreet but plentiful sex and bisexuality. If you've been zipping along with Drizzt the Dark Elf or other slaughter-the-unhuman-enemy romps, this may not be for you. Got that? If so, it's a heckuva ride. Christopher Marlowe is dead, sort of. Will Shakespeare isn't. King Arthur is, but not completely. Magic is afoot, and everyone's in a plot or two. More in my review of the second book, "Hell and Earth"

Great story telling. I was captivated from beginning to end. This is a fascinating story of survival, in spite of a crazy mother, in an unknown world. I especially liked the steady and compassionate, voice of our heroine Serena, with no residual of bitterness or shame. Serena is truly a tween in every sense of the word; age, nationality, family, cultures, language and her own desires. This story was meant for film.

Love the TV show Doctor Who, love Tom Baker's portrayal of the title character, absolutely hated this book, which was so poorly written and poorly done that I have forever and ever sworn off celebrity biography. The only saving grace is that Baker himself at least tries to be an occasionally decent human being; however, that doesn't save me from having wasted hours on reading this book. Damn you, Tom Baker!

What high hopes I had for this book! In fact, I started it THREE times and NEVER finished it. And it's not because I didn't want to; I simply couldn't. It just never managed to pull me in the way I thought a story about 20-somthing expats in Prague would (and should). A total shame.
