The Hobbit is the first novel that I read in my life. I didn't know about "Lord of the Rings" then and I really didn't care about it. This book took me beyond the walls of my child room and sent me to a great adventure with Bilbo Baggins. It's written in a much more simple and easy to read form than "Lord of the Rings". For me, this is the best book that Tolkien written and it is a must read for every adventurer and fantasy fan.

Well. Hmmm. I really wasn't that impressed with this book. well, let me rephrase that. I found it a page-turner up until the last 50 or so pages, and then the courtroom revelations were so anticlimactic and unrealistic--not at all like My Sister's Keeper that I found the end to be a major disappointment. Ick.

A great tool for Music Therapy. I have used it many times... and read through songs just for fun.

3.5 Quick and easy read with a simple plot and simple characters. The editor took their job too seriously when it came to the character development and the plot development but then forgot how to spell or look for extra spaces. Interesting enough for me to read the next one and hope that these 2d characters become 3d.

The Hound of the Baskervilles seems to be the most famous of the Sherlock Holmes novels but for me it didn't have enough of the clever deductions from Holmes as the previous two novels had. There's lots of plot twists but I missed the moments where Holmes becomes ye olde MacGyver when he picks up a piece of grass and says "It's Indian grass. You can tell by the discolouration around the tip!" or something like that. It's still a very fun story though. In Devonshire there is an estate belonging to the Baskervilles which was been within the family for generations. The Estate backs onto an expansive moor where, legend has it, a large evil hound lives and terrorises the Baskervilles. Murder, twists and turns follow. The Hound of the Baskervilles is still a solid story but it just didn't give me the kick of the others. But only by a tiny amount.

First of all, I have to say that the absolute worst thing about this book was the stupid cover art. If I had not read the previous books in this series, I would have dropped this thing like a hot potato for looking WAY too much like a cheap romance. It did this unique and complex story no justice what-so-ever. In this final book in the Doctrine of Labyrinths series, the author nicely ties up many loose ends. The brothers come to some sort of understanding, and Felix (finally !!!) begins to grow up and act more like a decent human being. I don't want to give too much away, but Sarah Monette stays true to her usual complex characterization and the brothers' relationship doesn't come to a neat "storybook" ending. Yet I still felt relatively satisfied. On the negative side, you never really do find out what happened back in Melusine. Lots of loose ends here if the author ever decides to revisit this world. And the introduction of yet another character given voice in Kay is just absurd. He should have stayed a minor character in the background. But overall I was quite happy to have read this series and will look for future books by this author for sure. For all the fantastical elements in her books, nobody writes such realistic interpersonal relationships and inner torment like Monette!

This is the first lisa gardner book I've read. A fast read that pulls you into the complicated but interesting plot. I am not sure if her writing style is for me. 2/3 into the story I found the plot take on a trashy vibe ... not my thing so I felt trapped but wanted to finish the story. Sort of a "Sleeping with the Enemy" meets "Silence of the Lambs"....

I'd love to ask Connor why she took this the way she did. This had the makings of a 5 star book for us. Julia was loving it, I was loving it, and then BOOM.... the boy and the bunny start talking to each other. In their minds. wtf? Even my daughter, at not even 6 years old, looked at me crazy with that one. The beginning was soo nice. Sweet, just what you'd expect from a book like this although I personally wouldn't call it "inspirational" I can see some people saying it is. The boy wants to be friends with the bunny in his garden and his Mother tried to explain ways for him to make this happen. Be patient, go slow, talk softly, leave him treats, etc. Care for him, be there for him no matter what, love him. And then. And then the bunny starts talking to him through telepathy is it? So basically we have a lovely little story about a boy and his would-be pet turning into either a boy with some pretty serious mental issues or a deranged bunny with some serious issues. Thaaaanks.....

A bit like reading a text book, this book tells the history of the Mongol empire with the help of the Secret History, which was discovered fairly recently in time.

Rhoda is Gilchrist's most memorable and autobiographical character. This collection was a wonderful tribute.
