Although this is a re-read for me, I found it as captivating the second time around as I did at the first reading. At Kate's mother's funeral, she notices a mysterious, elegant woman standing near her mother's coffin and again later on the outskirts at the graveside. Kate later learns how intricately this stranger's life was interwoven with her own. In postwar Manhattan a chance encounter between Sara Smythe and a handsome gatecrasher at her brother Eric's thanksgiving party sets off a chain of events that will prove to have profound consequences for Sara and Eric. It's a novel of love, betrayal, choices and the burden of carrying the weight of the choices made. A masterpiece of clever writing, absorbing twists and accomplished story-telling,this book will linger with you long after you have read the last page. Douglas Kennedy knows how to capture one's attention and hold it with his rich dialogue and true to life characters.

i am really enjoying this series... and the audible presentation.. so why 4 stars.. first. the first time i tries to read the book i think i got confused. many grpups of ambassadors find themselves througjput Europe and i got confused as to who was wear. i ended up putting the book down and it took years and a restart to finish it. but i dont exac5ly hold this book to that... i do note that it.lost a bit of the flair book 1 had by seperating some.couples and changing.some.points of.view. second. The.first.book had a romantic streak right beside the eviceral one of finding themselves transposed in time. this one took awhile before recapturing that feeling. ultimately this is my thoughts however. the book still rocks and i do llook forward to the next!
I liked this book, despite Jakabok Botch’s annoying and tedious begging to burn this book and set me free, although it is essential to the entire story. To fight off this constant begging, a story is expected to be told to the all too demanding reader. Jakabok obliges with his life’s story in hell as a young demon who doesn’t fit in and how he got his disfiguring beginnings. Interrupted by his pleas for release, his story continues on with his horrific and demonic misadventures in the realm of the living, with Quitoon, and angels too, for over a century. Poor Mister B.’s narrative finally ends not only with your hair-raising end, but also with a creepy final word about words.
I got about halfway through this book and had figured out what was going to happen. I was going to abandon the book as it just wasn't holding my interest--somehow I never really connected with Judith, Levi, or Andrew--but I Googled it and found several positive reviews so I stuck it out. My opinion didn't change, but at least now you know some folks did like it. Grade: C I'd like to thank the publisher for making a review copy available via NetGalley.

I loved Shakespeare growing up, and I had the fortune of having read this book for school the year before it came out in the theaters (the Leonardo DiCaprio version, that is). One of my favorite Shakespearean plays.

I liked this one a lot, but it was a bit out there for me. I like to be able to believe the things that are happening in the book. But still a good read. Sequel is much better.
