This novel turned out to be a lot more sprawling than I initially expected. With a plethora of characters (some hilarious, some infuriating, some tragic, all hilarious) all aspects of an Irish boarding school seem to be covered with what I assume is a certain degree of truth. It did; however, take me a while to get through it. Part of this is to do with the fact that I began reading it when the end of the semester became particularly crazy, but mostly the book is long. I found the part of the book leading up to Skippy's death (it's not a spoiler if it's in the title!) to be very very long but the actual death itself sprung up on me. The part after his death likewise stretched on, for me a bit too much, mostly because the big bangs were over far too quickly. I also thought the ending would be more conclusive but as the rest of the book portrays some of the realities of life, it makes sense that the ending is far from perfect. I did really enjoy the mix of mysticism, physics and World War I and the melange of voices. It made the book seem like a true combination of individual stories and how they intersect in a brief period or over a millenia.

I called it 7 habit for brokenhearted people, ha3.. awalnya, greg dan amiira akan menceritakan pengalaman patah hati mereka, dan bagaimana cara mereka keluar dari petaka itu untuk melanjutkan hidup, sama seperti yg dilakukan mantan2 mereka. Lalu, ada 7 cara yg harus dilakukan, tahap2 menahan diri untuk tidak menghubungi mantan :D, menemukan sobat seperjuangan, menahan diri untuk tidak membicarakan mantan di depan sahabat (mereka punya batas sabar jg lho :P), sampai tips ke-7 yg bikin aq nangis bgt, tahap mencintai diri sendiri :) ternyata resepnya mudah ya, kadang being dumped bikin qta benci sama diri sendiri, salahku apa, aq kurang apa.. tapi siapa lg yg bakal mencintai diri qta, kalo ga diri sendiri.. asal jgn overloaded, apalagi narsis abis, ha3.. as usual, buku greg slalu menakjubkan buatq, kalo sblmnya di he's just not that into you ditemenin liz tuzzilo, skr greg ditemenin istri tercinta deh.. thx for being my best friend greg, amiira, even just by your words on this beautiful book, i really appreciated that, thank you so much :)

Tyler is an average famous Hollywood actor who lives playing the role of the hero. On the record he can't be gay, off the record he is gay. So he prefers to stay alone istead of living a life of lies. But one day on the set he meets Dooley, a real cowboy, who works for the studio when they need horses. He is simple and open, he is real. And Tyler wants, for one time, a real thing in his life. So they stay together for some days, and then for some months, and then for some years... but one or two days every ten or twelve months will be enough? Tyler is open and friendly, not at all a bitch star. He is a next door boy far from home (figurative and literatelly), but he still have the way and the heart of a good boy. Dooley is rough and direct like all the real cowboy, but he is also tender and caring. The relationship is hot and passionate, but with no drama: it grows slowly like the two age slowly. Two man, a love, more sex... the troubles of the life stay behind the scene, but they are here, and the time leave its sign. http://elisa-rolle.livejournal.com/83...

This book is hilarious! The sarcasm of this man is great. He makes fun of everything pop culture, but does it in a very intelligent and analytical way. I enjoyed the chapter about Zack Morris. The book is pretty much a bunch of essays compiled together and can be read in bits and pieces and even be used as a "mini-break" from another book you may be reading. This book is awesome and an easy read!

I was very dissatisfied with this book. As a matter of fact, I didn't read any of Hornby's books after this for a while. The couple in the book irritated me and left me wondering how I finished the story at all.
Dasgupta loves the organic; somehow many stories involve the merging of the living with the inanimate or the startling combination of life forms; buildings that are alive or grow things, animals that communicate or people that sprout plants... lots and lots of body fluids... his stories repulse more than resonate.

Holy cow, this book is one of my all-time favorites. But, as far as I'm concerned, this book is where Neal Stephenson peaked. IMHO, almost every book he's written after this are about 3-4x too long, and should have been edited down. I have some friends who love every page of, say, Cryptonomicon, but I found it very tough slogging at times. It's a shame, because I liked the story, but did not enjoy reading all the superfluous text that a strong editor would have taken out. This is, incidentally, why I've completely given up on his System of the World series.

** spoiler alert ** So disappointed in this book. Details about Evan's child with Sara -- which are revealed in book 4, The Chase, are completely flipped in this book, so I search and find a novella featuring Sara in an anthology where it's discovered that Evan isn't the father at all! This anthology is NOT featured on the Fast Track series page of Ms. McCarthy's website. I also thought Tuesday and Diesel rushed into a marriage. Just because I read romance doesn't mean I need every hero and heroine to tie the knot at the end of their book. Both Tuesday and Diesel have issues to overcome, and I would have liked to have seen them agree to continue dating while Tuesday goes to AA and grief counseling.

The Woman in White, considered one of the first mystery novels and is the best known work of English novelist Wilkie Collins. Late one night, a drawing teacher meets a mysterious woman dressed in white. Who is she, and what is her connection to the teacher's new pupil, a beautiful heiress? Serialized in 1859 - 1860, and first published in book form in 1860 it is still regarded still as one of the best plots in English literature. Told from multiple perspectives, the story is brought to life by its marvellous villains and complex, spirited and believable female characters.
