Wiesel captures perfectly his experience with simple but dramatic observations and descriptions. Even though I'm aware of the genocide and tragic events during WWII through movies and other novels, Wiesel's novel remains nothing short of shocking; Wiesel's perseverance is awe-inspiring.

It certainly is lucky that this lady had so much money in Switzerland, is all *I* can say. I'm puzzled about why she never learned to speak Samburu. Or why she ever thought this was a good idea, though I get that later she's got a classic case of what happens to emotionally and psychologically abused wives. She's kind of a mess: after everything she's been through, she still gets irritated when her husband shows up in western-style clothes that aren't stylish enough for her tastes? Hmm... I also can't believe she let her eighteen-year-old sister anywhere near Masai warriors by herself, all things considered. But maybe Sabine was just like Corinne and you couldn't tell her anything.

Basic but still has new tidbits to offer, minor bio of CSL included. Light on theological imagery though.

I enjoyed this book because of the characters - mostly Senneth and Tayse. I thought the plot centered around keeping the princess safe was a bit thin. Why do they have to keep her so isolated and protected? It didn't seem like her father was trying to train her to rule the country at all, just protect her from everyone.
I liked the opening premise of the book - twins are born, one has Down's and so the doctor father hides it from the mother and the rest of the world by instructing his nurse to institutionalize the child. Yet the book went downhill after a few chapters, I thought, especially when dragging in the mother's infidelity and detailing the breakup of their marriage. There were moments of brightness later on, but it was too much work to get to them.
Bawdy comic Revolutionary tale of a fictitious supposed bastard son of George Washington and a prostitute. Intrigue and quaint language abound in the tale - isn't that the basis of American history? Right you are!
